I've seen what the night shift looks like for doctors, and I've heard about how fricked your sleep schedule is when you do night shift consistently. I'd take the normal day job. Yea you would have more time off with the night job, but you would have to stay on the same sleep schedule unless you wanted to really screw up your body, so you wouldn't have much time with your family (since they'd be on a normal schedule, and you'd be sleeping when they're awake and vice versa). IMO I would forget about the night shift, there's a reason they have to pay so much for so little work. They have to pay extra and get new doctors and shitty doctors to work those shifts

First thought is, who needs 17 weeks vacation?
Secondly, what pct of my salary would $30K make up?

And the 17 weeks aren't paid vacation. That's just time he's not working. He's a doctor working shift work.

When you said $30k less with 17 weeks off, I was thinking job was teacher until I saw $215k. What kind of job pays that kind of money and gives you 4 months of vacation time a year?

ill keep my current salary and vacation. I currently have 50 personal days and accru 16hrs per month. Can roll over yearly also.... so ill pass on your two options.

Context matters.
Are you deciding between $130k/100k or $70/40?
If the former hell yes. Latter, hell no.

245 vs 215
Monthly Take home pay with 215k is roughly $10,308
Monthly Take home pay with 245k is roughly $11,554
At those amounts, the extra 11 weeks off is by far worth the $1,200 a month haircut

Bruh, if you are only making 215 as an ED physician working nights you need to relocate.

To be fair, he's not putting 2k/month into a 401k unless he's over 50, so he's probably taking home another $350 ish per month more as a result. Doesn't change the decision though.

Really depends on how much the salary is...like others said. 90 - 60 and 250 - 220 is wayyy different

with less money, how do you enjoy the 17 weeks off?
Posted on 2/16/17 at 8:49 am to MorbidTheClown
Well I could do locums for 6 weeks at another job and make 30k upon investigating tonight stuck in a case.
This is best case for money issue because I still have 11 weeks off at same pay.

It's not that uncommon for ED physicians. I know someone who will be working 12 12's a month and making over 400 a year. Granted it's more rural but still.

I'm not an ED physician...I'm a nurse anesthetist.

Oh well then disregard
Seriously though take the 215 then try and land some shifts at an outpatient surgery center.

make 30k less salaried with 17 weeks off?
I get 10 days
If I need to take more vacation days than that throughout the year, they should just find someone else to replace me.
