The gap has shrunk because now half of San Antonio’s Mexican restaurants are trying to appeal to the actual Mexican crowd and so the food isn’t all that different from the street tacos you find in the rest of the country.
Where it excels is the tex Mex, which is authentic in San Antonio, you have to hit the old school places that are run by old Texas Mexican families. They often have a street name or a family member name in it, or a name like “Taco House” that sounds almost kinda white. Avoid anywhere that has a reference to Mexico in the name. It won’t be authentic tex Mex. I have a list of recs for next time you visit…

So it used to be an oil town but can be considered the East Texas regional medical center now. But as I drive around, I don't know what the rest of those people do for a living.
I have also wondered that.

Still have family in spring branch. Wife's grandmother donated the land for the Spring Branch 9 pin bowling alley. That area has been going gangbusters for last 20 years.

Lived in tyler for a while. ( moved when retired)….have friends in SA..
You are comparing apples to oranges.. both have many positives.. depends on you lifestyle you want.
I would choose SA . But to be honest if I was moving neither of those would be my choice.

San Antonio is slowly becoming a big city
San Antonio has been in the top 10 largest cities in the United States since 1950 and is currently No. 7.
Nothing slow about that.

There are two big arsed hospitals and a medical school. So it used to be an oil town but can be considered the East Texas regional medical center now.
I had an ambulance crew take me to the ER back the end of last year right after they got back from transporting a patient to the new hospital in Tyler. They said it took 45 minutes to get from the ambulance entrance to the patient room the hospital is so big. It took over an 2 hours to perform a scheduled transfer and be back on the road.

Considering how homes are 400k+ being built in Bullard which has maybe 3,000 people, I wondered about that as well. Not everyone is lawyers, dr’s and engineers, I guess there’s still a lot of old money going around and people are house broke
Im considering putting my kiddo in brook hill but Bullard has a great public school system

That’s true but considering how much housing is increased I’m just not sure how many people are affording these new homes. Maybe it’s because I’m also a single parent

I’ve been in those hospitals. They’re not that big. But they are becoming like regional Medical Centers.

San Antonio never felt that huge to me compared to the Houston or Dallas metroplexes.
Because it’s not. But also Dallas and Houston are the 4th and 5th largest metro areas in the US
San Antonio is not a mega large city like those two but it’s still a big city

Our son (4) will likely be at All Saints August 2026. Heard good things about Brook Hill and Bullard ISD.

I could live in both places. Comes down to do you like a bigger city or a smaller town. Climate is another big difference. Pine and oaks in Tyler, and San Antonio obviously is a more arid borderline desert area. Me personally I’d rather live in San Antonio. There is more to do there and they have a NBA team, concerts, etc.

San Antonio and it isn't even close.

I’m in spring branch right now, although it is the part closer to canyon lake. What are the differences?
