North Carolina. Truly a beautiful state that has it all. Mountains. Beaches. Lakes. Cities. Country. And it isn’t totally eat up with woketards…. Yet.

This always cracks me up. It's like state lines are these invisible Lefty a-hole fences.

It’s also very conservative like 5 minutes outside of Asheville

Murfreesboro is not Nashville

Just made a killing on house I sold in Murfreesboro and moved back to Nashville.

Bought for 275k in 2018 and sold 4 years later for 500k with zero improvements.

Depends where. Wears Valley in Tennessee is sweet, but so is Maggie Valley in North Carolina

Built the 4th house in Lenox Village on Leveson Way in 2003. NC is beautiful, but Nashville has more to offer. Last two weekends I went to an Indy race and Red Hot Chili Peppers show, direct flights to almost anywhere via SW, more central location but still get 4 seasons, low prop taxes, no state income, robust job market across many sectors, ridiculous dining and nightlife options (seafood not included) and it feels like the south.

North Carolina coastal region for me without question.

Tax friendly and beautiful with nice coastal options and mountains not far away for those times I want that.

The Wheels Through Time museum in Maggie Valley is pretty cool.

Doesn't Tennessee have zero state income taxes? In a close battle, I'd take that as the deciding factor.

I just do not get this, you are still paying taxes they just name and collect them differently, how am I better off saving $1500 in income tax to pay $1500 more in taxes elsewhere be it property, school, or car tax or whatever you call it?

Tennessee still has lower property tax than NC despite not having state income tax. It's a really well run state. Sales taxes are higher, but nobody is forced to into mass consumption.

Middle Tennessee is the best option, but on the whole North Carolina has more to offer than Tennessee. West Tennessee really drags the state down.

Tennessee. North Carolina is the worlds largest speed trap and they have a state income tax

My heart would say North Carolina. Better mountains and for National Parks I prefer the Blue Ridge Parkway over the Great Smoky Mountains. Easier to get away from the crowds. Plus you are closer to the coast.

Tennessee really is more hilly than mountainous until you get within 50 miles of North Carolina. Heck even the main exit for Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Sevierville off I-40 and around Knoxville is more hilly than mountainous and most of Sevierville and Pigeon Forge are flat with the mountains in the background.

The North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountains is the better side with better white water rafting and towns that aren't as overrun.

With that said, North Carolina scares me. The politics are all controlled by Raleigh and Charlotte just like the politics in Virginia are all controlled by Richmond and DC/NOVA. The whole Triangle area as well as Charlotte are going more and more Democrat with more people moving in from the Northeast. That means higher taxes, higher fees and greater regulations. Tennessee has no threat of going Democrat and has no state income tax which isn't insignificant. Home values are higher in North Carolina which means higher property taxes. That's fine but I'm looking at it as home, not just some investment property to flip.

I just worry that North Carolina is very close to becoming just like Virginia. Maybe I shouldn't but I do.

If I could find a great place right near or on the Tennessee/North Carolina line I would probably live in Tennessee. You would get the benefits of both. The tri-cities area (Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City) is an area I could definitely see settling down in.

Funny the only time I’ve been pulled over for speeding was in North Carolina.

This is what they tell people in an attempt to keep them in Louisiana. Then you move out of state and quickly see how much more money you keep. It’s a lie.

In the 20+ years I spent either living in North Carolina or traveling back and forth, I've never gotten a speeding ticket in North Carolina. Virginia is the state that always got me.
