Turbos are expensive. No thanks

The early Turbo Trans-Ams (80-81) were notorious for failing just like you are describing, but that was a long time ago and it was GM.
Please.
It wasn't only GM that had coking problems in the 80's.
Improved oils and water cooling have pretty much solved the issues years ago.

This depends on what kind of vehicle and what I want it to do.
I can't stand the ecoboost V6 Ford F150; to me a truck should have a V8.
For performance cars I am partial to a 6 cylinder turbo.
For a luxury car, V8, or even better V8 turbo.

Did you read my other posts?

Dang, that's uglier than sin right there.

Yes. And yet the GM dig in the post I referenced.

I just used them as an example b/c I was pretty familiar with them and it was the truth.
GM was making crap engines at the time, including early Buick V-6s.
They deserved the reputation they had for shoddy workmanship.

Naw, those were fine.
They had the oil pump issue sorted out by then.

I wouldn’t be afraid of buying an ecoboost. More power than any half-ton V8. The V8 probably has a better chance of lasting longer.

I have a v6 twin turbo that kicks the shite out of the v8 from the previous year... and increased the mileage by 20+%

V8 will beat an ecoboost in initial launch as well which is when you usually need the power the most.

Wish they made an extended cab optional. Would have loved to have one but regular cabs are just too small.
I recall one of the mags said their only complaint when road testing it was hitting their head on the back glass at launch.

There is no replacement for displacement. I’ll take the v8.

I have an 8 cylinder turbo, so what do I win?
I also have a 4 cylinder w 5000lb towing capacity.
So yes.

Depends on the engine displacement and the size of the turbos...
Posted on 9/24/19 at 3:52 pm to CatsGoneWild
All things equal, I'll take naturally aspirated any day.

Pros and cons. Turbo's are easily programmable if you're into tuning. They are more efficient as opposed to higher displacement, but at a cost of more wear on engine components.
Personally, the lag on most turbo VW's and Bimmers drives me nuts. I'll take a naturally-aspirated, high compression ratio 4 cylinder over a turbo. I'd rather have a defined, smoother torque curve than a kick in the nuts when the turbo engages.
