Would you rather have a smaller engine in a car/truck w/ turbo(s) or have a bigger engine?
Basically a 4 cylinder turbo vs v6
6 cylinder turbo/twin turbo vs a v8

Depends on your preferred balance between spending more money and caring what others think

more cylinders. The high heat associated with turbocharging wrecks the oiling systems

Man, that's tough.
No 4cyl anything.
This takes some thinking:
So Turbo/ Turbo S vs Corvette?
Supercharging the 8 makes a difference...

Was more true years ago, not so much now.

don’t think you understand what a turbocharger does, baw

I have a 4cyl turbo now. The fricking turbo lag has almost gotten me killed multiple times. A minimum 6 cylinders is my requirement. It used to be 8, but my last car was a BMW and the 6 in that thing was the sweetest motor I ever had.

I'd rather have the prior generation M3 with the V-8 then the current generation M4 with the twin turbo V-6 even though the M4 is more powerful.
I prefer the sound of the V-8

I prefer natural aspiration, but there are benefits to both

Man, I just don't see coking being an issue any more, like it was in the 80s.
I know lot of guys that track turbo cars and don't seem to have issues, granted they change the oil regularly. I think closer tolerance and lighter weight oils have all but alleviated this problem.
I've seen more heatsoak issues from supercharged V-8s, and even then, it is somewhat rare, and never on the street.

The sound of the M4's exhaust was so bad that BMW piped in fake exhaust notes through the speakers

the biggest thing as far as turbo technology in the war on coking is water cooling. It has helped tremendously but i've seen far to many cases of VW turbocharged motors with so much soot in the oilpan caused by turbo coking that the pickups couldn't get enough oilflow for the motor.
Track cars are a different story. You know those guys take extra critical care of their motors.

Diesel cars? I'll admit, I don't know a lick about VWs.
I used track cars as an example of extreme duty, but I don't know anyone that has had turbo failure in a DD.
The early Turbo Trans-Ams (80-81) were notorious for failing just like you are describing, but that was a long time ago and it was GM.

An LS-based V8 with the most expensive heads I can buy.
Like an LSX 454 or similar.

More cylinders. My wife’s explorer with the 4 cyl EcoBoost is the biggest pos engine ever made. I’ll never buy another turbo charged small motor for a regular car. It may be a different calculus if it’s a Porsche, but a grocery getter turbo sucks arse.
I got the 5.0 in my new F150.

Dang, that's crazy.
That's got to be design issue? Recall deal, or did they fail at like, 100K out of warranty?
