I wouldn't do fast food. But I could do something like a Roadhouse/Chili's.

If you are near a Federal prison, they are hiring correctional officers. 45k sign on bonus (have to be there 2 years to get it all) and you will start around 74k a year. They need help bad.
On the surface that doesn't sound like a bad gig. Now I am saying this without any knowledge schedule, location etc. But we know your going to have pretty good benefits with it being a federal job, likely 30 days PTO a year with ability to roll over unused PTO. To my knowledge federal prisons are much safer and deal with non violent criminals.

We are in the fast food business. The store managers work very hard and it’s extremely difficult to find decent employees. Not to mention the customers. It’s a tough job.

It wouldn't be my choice to work a fast food job. I guess if I had to I could it at a chik fil a or in a location like North Dakota or Montana where that demographic is scarce.
Anywhere else absolutely not.

Doubtful. As a teen I worked fast food and the mgrs are just pimps to the public. To make it worse, these days certain types jump over the counter or throw things at you. No thanks.

This is pretty ridiculous to tell someone making 60k a year, “Hey man you should try and double your income.” Yes no kidding that would be incredible, but unfortunately I can’t snap my fingers and make that happen at the moment
Terrible attitude. He said in 10 years. If you can’t even imagine being on a career path where you’re making $160K 10 years from now (I say this with love my brother in Christ) you have an absolute loser mindset and you need to address that before you do anything else!

I wouldn't last a week in any job dealing with the public.

I worked hard to get out of that industry.
$100k extra a year might do it tho.
THIS.
Unless you set in stone your hours are whatever, they will own you. Your phone will ring 24/7. From fast food to fine dining, it is littered with the lowest common denominator and trying to manage those types is "challenging"
Obviously some people do it and love it. I'm sure exceptions exist that are great careers. I would make sure my plan was strictly to use it as a stepping stone into something else related.
Good luck with your decision.

Loser mindset? Dude is considering managing a fast food joint for an extra 10k. Not what I'd consider a loser mindset

Have you ever worked in the service industry?
There are times when I miss it and wonder if I should've made that a career.
If you're young enough for a career change, give it some thought.
If it has been a while since you've been in the service industry, the customers aren't what they used to be.

If it's a nicer spot, absolutely. Fast food? Eh, doubt it would be worth those headaches.
Fine dining is just different headaches. a-hole servers who work 3 shifts a week fighting over call tables/ number of heads, but wont cover a shift on a slow night. Getting out at 2-3am if people stay at the bar. having 4 Saturdays off a year if your lucky. 1/2 of your employees are dependent on atleast one substance. dishwasher might get picked up before dinner service to name a few.

The worst part of working in food is the schedule. The second worst part is you employees basically being responsible for your success or failure. The third part is the customers.
If you're okay with those three, then sure.

The extra 10k would not be worth the hit to my mental health. I'm gonna need a lot more than that.
Posted on 6/5/26 at 8:17 am to NeilArmstrong1969
Would the extra 10K be worth managing the unmanageable?
A couple of years ago, I went through a Jack In The Box drive-through and the order took what I considered and unreasonable amount of time. When the window opened and my bag passed to me, I couldn't see anyone around him so I asked him if he was short handed. The guy really looked out of place there, being older and somewhat well spoken.
The guy told me he was the manager and only one person had shown up and that the two of them were cooking, working the counter, taking the orders, and delivering the food.
Naa, I think that's not where I'd want to work.

As simple as this sounds, it makes a big difference in about every single aspect of managing a retail food outlet.

If you need the money really bad (as in you can't seem to make ends meet and save a little each month), then you may need to do it.
Otherwise, if you like doing what you're doing vs that and don't need the money quite that bad, then stay where you are. You'll eventually get a raise.
If it's a place where you don't expect another raise, then it's time to look for something else -- maybe the food joint wouldn't be so bad?

Is dealing with morons and the general public worth an extra 10k?
Posted on 6/5/26 at 8:33 am to NeilArmstrong1969
No, but I would put the lotion in the basket.
