I don't know about that. It is probably better to hold the kid until the person explains why they left them unattended.

As I read this, I had a mental image of Larry David in this scenario.

From what you are saying she has good reason to run away from that asshat.

Sounds like he was probably involved in human trafficking. The girl saw her chance to finally escape but you prevented that. Hope you sleep well tonight.

I might be misreading this, but always put the kid down before trying to explain.

She tried to run back out, as soon as I walked in I put her down and she tried to run out.

I think she was trying to go to some place. I could not understand. She was maybe seven and had Asburger's or Autism, she was not making sensible words at all.

That' s kind of how i felt. She did not want to be with grandpa and I would assume she was trying to go to her mom.
I try and Sonder that scenario, who knows what Mom is doing, may not be in picture at all. from start to finish the whole thing was like a minute, and damn I should have stole their toast,

Yes. If it is the right thing to do. Not really a option for me.

I see a lot of support for you but not so fast. That was quite risky of you to "fireman carry" a young girl against her will and you don't know the back story of their life. A few questions off the bat. How did you know she needed assistance? Also you just diagnosed her as autistic in the less than a minute of her walking into Canes? That's impressive. What if her family was outside and she was going to them? There are a lot of situations to think about before picking up a young girl.

Now, I feel it's very admirable of you to be aware and check on the girl's well being.. I believe I would have done the same thing, but to pick her up is a little extreme.

A lady explains it to him and he still doesn't thank me. Not that that is what I wanted.
He leaves with the kids, leaving the half eaten food. I see him smack the crap out of that girl as he was walking back to the car.

that was a no win situation

he would have lost face had he admitteted there was a problem with his grandkids...that was not the place or time to pull anyone to the side and explain in pvt

nice try bro...

One of my closest buds has a live-in gf with a retarded kid. She doesn't mind us watching him or rescuing him from dangerous situations at all because she is rational.

I guess with the invention of Facebook and YouTube, people lost all common sense and the ability to think properly. I blame Alien Honzalez

You did the right thing. Hopefully I would think quick enough in that situation. I might not. People don't always appreciate it. In fact I think that people rarely do. A person just has to get used to the idea that knowing you did the right thing is its own reward.

The lady may be right, I don't know, about getting in trouble for touching someone else's kid even if you are clearly justified like you were. That's another thing a person has to accept. Being punished for doing the right thing. I'd rather get in a little trouble than the girl get run over by a car or lost or whatever other worst case scenarios that are possible, and know that I could have prevented it.

Gramps also seems pretty negligent in this situation.

You did the right thing. Screw the old man. He'd be the first one cursing you out if the kid got hit by a car.
