I'm sure people that have always had it would really struggle. My dad said they got AC when he was about 8 and he didn't like it at first.

Yes. Just give me some window units. That's what we grew up with.

Yeah, but I’m OT poor so I’ll stick with my window units.

The population would collapse to the 20s…the 1920s.

I don't attach all that much importance to central AC. I'd give it up for a $99,999 lump sum payment, and that's less than half my net worth / annual income.

Also the homestead act granted 160 acres of land to those who lived on it and improved it for 5 years.

If there were a magic button that I could push that would eliminate all of the blacks in the south and all I had to do was put window units in my house, I would push that button 100/100 times.

So would you give up the prevalence of central AC if it meant the population returned to what it was in the 80s and 90s?

Yes

The loophole is you said central AC. That means I can have window unit AC

asked my 90 year old grandfather years ago how they managed to sleep on those hot July and August southern nights before air conditioning. He simply said, “We didn’t. It was awful”

I bet not much sex occurred those months either.

Once ChatGPT merges with Golden Dome and becomes self-aware, we're going to be seeing a lot more of those signs.

I had a shotgun house with window units and a floor furnace from 1997 to 2005 and didn't mind at all. I got central as part of my hurricane Katrina rebuild. It was a big improvement!

I could do it again, but only in a small house.

My parents did it. Bathe at night, open the windows and turn on the attic fan, then sleep on top of the covers. You get used to it I suppose.

I’m 44 and I did this in my youth.

I distinctly remember when my primary school got AC in 1988. Before that we just opened windows and sweated.
