Food is better, people are nicer, women are more attractive......I'll give you that the terrain isn't that fun and not mountainous, but the beaches in fla and fishing in Louisiana make up that for me
If I want mountains I have no problem vacationing for them, that being said I'm staying put in south la
Fwiw the pac northwest is a nice place, I hate the Midwest and the northeast, if I was forced to move I would pick the pac Nw as my 2nd

Places I would chose to live over the south.
Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Northern New Mexico, Oregon, Washington.

Seattle? Who the hell would want to live in that shitshow of a city? Fast food people getting $15 an hour is dumb. Btw, I've always lived in Louisiana and I'm fine if I'm here the rest of my life. I can visit places if I get the urge
You sound like white trash. Congrats.

The women certainly generally are fatter in Louisiana.

I left Louisiana back in '90. Just came back last year.
I saw much of America, and the world. Everywhere I've been I compared it to Louisiana.
Would I 'permanently' move away from the south? Yeah, but the offer(and place) to live, somewhere else, has to be right.

Anyone experience this and how has it worked out for you? Do you plan on moving back eventually or will you stay put now that you've left?
Moved to Atlanta after LSU, then moved to the Midwest for a career opportunity. I miss family pretty bad sometimes, and wish I could be at the big sporting events, but I don't think we'll ever move back. So many things are better outside of the deep South

I can watch my sports teams on TV
This is the #1 reason why I would never permanently leave. Yeah, I can watch on TV. Big whoop. But that doesnt' come 1/10000th to replicating the real thing.
Getting back on campus of my alma mater just elicits something deep inside you that's hard to put into words. Nostalgia overload. Catching up with old buddies that I only see a few times a year. Not having a single errand, responsibility, or care in the world all Saturday other than just enjoying the day. Getting drunk starting at 7am, how many other times can you do that and it be cool? Walking down Baxter and seeing the top of the stadium lights as you crest the top and make your way down. Passing the dorm that I stayed in as an 18 year old freshman just entering the real world on my own. Walking along the bridge among the throng of thousands of others in red and black. Old fellas with tickets in the air and younger folks holding up a hand needing tickets. Random "go dawgs!" among friendly strangers. Looking from the bridge down onto the field on the bright green grass and that fresh coat of paint on the field. Aaaaah man, we're close. Getting in the concourse for yet anohter year and seeing those familiar sights, hearing the sounds, the smell of the concessions. Getting into your seat and shaking hands and high fiving with your neighbors you see 6 times a year but act like you've been friends for life. Seeing the boys come out of the tunnel in those crisp red uniforms wiht that G on the helmet and having goosebumps the entire time. Hearing the trumpeter from the top of the SW stands, watching the video montage, seeing the students pumped up. Watching the sun or the lights bounce off that beautiful helmet, hearing those pads pop when the hittin starts and feeling that anticipation on every snap that something big is about to happen. College football on a fall saturday in the deep south...man does it get much better than that?
You can watch it on TV if you like, to each his own. As for me I'll stay put for as long as I have a say in the matter, because there's nothing in the world like being there watching your team live for a big game in a big atmosphere.

I love the NW part of the country. The wife and I would do it if it weren't for family obligations.

I need to go check out Eastern PA because I hated Western PA aside from Pittsburgh, which I love. All the small towns were shitty and they made it damn near impossible to get booze.

I get all of that but I don't understand how 6-7 days a year can be a real factor in where someone wants to live.

Disagree. The women, like most others, are fat and in terrible shape by their early to mid twenties for the most part

Hell no. "American by birth, Southern by the grace of God"

Moved out West for half a year. Beautiful scenery, but it just wasn't our cup. Greatly missed the South. Don't regret giving it a shot. At this point, I don't see ever leaving the South. But I'm not against a new adventure somewhere else in the country at some point in the future.

Agreed. I mean really, you are gonna put up with all of the negative things about Louisiana and the South in general....cause of food???
As for people are nicer....if you are a nice friendly person, people will be nice and friendly back....no matter where you are.
And with the much higher obesity rates in Southern states, maybe the women looked good while they were in college....but chances are many of them blew the hell up once their metabolisms slowed down and the unhealthy eating and no exercise caught up with them.

People go way over board with the food category when this discussion pops up. Does Louisiana have certain cuisine that makes it better than some places? Sure. But that can be said about a number of regions.
As far as the "people are more friendly down here" angle. I think that's a crock of shite. People in the south are just has cliquish as any other region in this country. Finally, the idea that women down here are more attractive is kind of misleading. Mainly because when people say that they think of massive college campuses.

Don't get me wrong...there are foods that I make sure to have whenever I come to visit LA to see friends/family. However....it's not like when I did live in LA that I was eating boudin and red beans and rice and jambalaya for every single meal anyways. And you are right....you find other foods in the new region you are at to enjoy. Louisiana certainly has a type of cuisine that is well known and loved by many....but to not move and have food as one of your top reasons for that....just seems kinda silly. My quality of life revolves around more than just food.

Women in the north and west coast take way better care of themselves. IMO, non southern girls are also a lot less high maintenance and are more ambitious.
Even among well to do southern girls there's a large % of them chomping at the bit to become Mrs, pop out a few kids, and stay home for the rest of their lives.
