Even among well to do southern girls there's a large % of them chomping at the bit to become Mrs, pop out a few kids, and stay home for the rest of their lives.
Part of the culture there. If you are a over 30 and single, never married, woman in the South, you must have something wrong with you in the eyes of many back there.
You could be a 32 year old single, never married, woman who is financially dependent and with a good job.....but the divorced 32 year woman with 3 kids will be seen as more "normal" to many in the South compared to the single woman the same age.

Quality of life is also exaggerated in these threads. We all live in the US. Upper middle class and higher are going to have great quality of life no matter where they live.

What's unhealthy about gumbo and red beans?

That's true for spending purposes but the crime and shitty infrastructure we put up with is felt by people from all classes.

Yeah but can you send your children to decent public schools in your state/city? I realize you would likely do private no matter what...but would public even be a decent option where you live?
I will have public school as a viable option to me once I have a child and so do many others in other states. Private school should be because you really want your child to go that route or because you want them taught in a religious setting that matches your beliefs....not because it's the only option for your child to receive a good education.

Crime is usually neighborhood specific and that's anywhere in the country. The hasn't been any major crimes near my neighborhood in years.

It is. Lafayette has some pretty good public schools
Good public schools all over the US are in the suburbs.

Yeah last I checked....there isn't special highways/roads for the rich to travel on.
They still have to drive on horrible LA roads with the rest of the poors.

This
While the south does have wonderfully nice people, it doesn't mean other places don't. Philly was the only place I noticed there were a good bit of rude people, but then again when I spend a week in Pottsville for a conference most everyone I met was pretty nice. Maybe it's a city thing..who knows. And then again maybe it's just regional or there are nice and rude people everywhere.. I went to California (Bay area) for a month last summer thinking people there would might be more course than what I was used to, and most were the nicest people i'd ever met, always asking me where I was from, and how I liked California. Anecdotal experiences I know, but nonetheless meaningful to my worldview

I recently moved out of the south, I could easily see myself staying here permanently.

A pothole is kind of a reach for quality of life but yes we could use some better roads. That's mostly due to the ground they are built on here

If none of your family still lived in The South....would you stay?

Are my friends gone too?
If my family and friends were gone and I had a reason to move somewhere like a really good job offer yes I'd leave.

Lafayette is certainly safer than its other Louisiana counterparts but probably not near as safe as cities in the West and North with different demographics.

Moved here 4 months ago from BR...other than home prices, it is a major step up.
