True story.

My dad passed away in 2008 and had a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee in his garage. The Jeep stayed there and didn't move until 2010 when my mother asked me if I wanted it. I told her it was 12 years old and I didn't want it. She asked if I would come over, start it and take it up to the church and donate it.

I charged the battery, started it up then looked down at the odometer. It had less than 2000 miles on it. I went inside and told mom "I'll take that 12 year old jeep.".

They had 4 vehicles, a new Mercedes, a new Cadillac and an antique 29 ford so of course the Jeep was seldom driven.

I sold my 99 Suburban last spring. A fricking lemon. So many issues from day one that it's almost unbelievable if I didn't have the stack of receipts to show. 157k miles and non-stop issues

I had a 1995 Chevy pickup. fricking lemon. Had to sell it after 14 years. Stupid A/C broke and they wanted $500 to fix it . Barely had 350,000 miles too.

Had a 99 ‘burb and it was the king of the road until my 16 yo son borrowed it and rear-ended someone, driving the radiator back into the engine. That was 2011 and I’d hoped to send him to college in that tank. They totaled it out and I wish I had elected to keep it.

Don’t get me started on the tires. Had to replace them every 40,000 miles.

It would eat through brake pads and light bulbs too. I went through 5 sets of tires and probably changed the headlight bulbs at least 3 times in just 350,000 miles.

Chevy and Ford make terrible full sized trucks.

Buy a Toyota. It’s carved out of a solid piece of stone and never requires maintenance.

Can’t bring it back. GM never produced a two door z71 Tahoe. The z71 package wasn’t offered on the Tahoe until 2000. Last 2 doors were 99 models.

Lots of people bought Z71 stickers for pickups and put them on 2 door rigs.

My dad had '99 silverado that had the new body style. did it take suburban a couple years to follow suit or was 99 one of those years where you could get old or new style?

You could still buy a Silverado Classic that had that older body style.

Friend,

Perhaps the better question is would you drive this 1996 Mercury Villager? It is the same minivan used by Tony and Paulie as they drive to south Florida to hide from police in the episode “Remember When.”

It sold a couple of years ago for just $7000, a fraction of its estimate. This exact car is not the one that sold — the real one did not have the silver trim and was red throughout, nor did it have tinted windows, but that image was copyrighted.

Yours,

Hang on. Was it that they just called them Blazers instead? Chevy definitely had a 2-door 4WD SUV on the GMT400 platform.

I'm obviously a fan of the show given my avatar.

They had them. In those days the off road package was a subtle upgrade with lockers, skid plates, etc. They didn't start plastering the letters "Z71" on the side of their SUVs until after the 2 door model was dropped.

My younger brother got the 29 ford with the condition that it never leaves the family. We grew up restoring that old car but my brother drove it to his wedding. We thought it was only fitting that he got it. I edited this to add the pictures, the first was taken in 1977 the second just a couple of years ago. You can tell it is well maintained.
