Gas cost for a 7 hour drive.....not much savings there after figuring that
What kind of tank are you driving that approaches $300 for a 7 hour highway trip?

It's 3.5 hour drive, one way, to purchase something $300 cheaper than I can get it locally.

I suspect that a month from now, I will have forgotten about paying $300 more for whatever item this is.
It’ll take me a heck of a lot longer to forget about using a very rare free day sitting in my car.
So, that’s a no for me dawg.

At 3.5 hours, I'm guessing it would be around 220 miles, or 440-450 round trip. I get 11 mpg in my vehicle, so that would be around 41 gallons of gas. At 2.25 per gallon, that would be right at 92 dollars for fuel. I'm not driving 7 hours round trip to save $208.

Whose vehicle and what is it?
Who is paying the gas?
Can I claim expenses?

Yea probably if it was during the week. My time is more valuable, but I get paid regardless.
Bunch of clock punchers in here.

Ehh. About 40 bucks an hour. Not terrible.
Minus wear and tear on your vehicle and gas. No fricking way to this.

Yes. That’s basically making $40/hour. Not bad

Can you not get it shipped to you? Or is it a hooker?

I would do it. But dont let that $300 go into your normal account and just be absorbed by normal bills and shite.
Go buy yourself something with the saved $300 that you normally wouldnt buy. Or do something with it and remind yourself "I only got to do/buy this because i drove 7 hours the other day"
That to me would make it worth it

400 miles at $.575 per mile cost to operate car = $230
7 hours at $10 per hour = $70
total = $300
nope
yeah, i know you won't have to pay all that $230 in gas, and if you drive fast enough, your gas mileage will be great. not a good deal any way you calculate it, unless you work for $7 per hour.
if that's the case, you can't afford to buy anything that you can get $300 cheaper down the road.
7 hours at $10 per hour = $70
total = $300
nope

It all depends on the drive.
3.5 hours of four-lane highway with interesting small towns along the way? Absolutely. Could be a nice way to have a bit of solitude and pick up a boat.
3.5 hours down I-10 through construction zones? Hell, no.

For starters, you’re not “making” $300 for driving 7 hours, you’re saving $300. Slight difference.
Figure in your fuel costs first before you decide.
On a Saturday or Sunday, I’d consider it. I guess look at it this way, if someone offered you $300 to drive 7 hours, would you do it?

I would do it, me. That would be a relaxing thing to do every now and again.

Sounds like a trip to Houston. About 600 miles x $0.56 a mile.... $336. Yep. I would do it, and just recently did it instead of renting.

You say it is a very very specific one sounds like it is not that ordinary so driving to get what you want is driving to get what you want.

Sounds similar to driving 5 miles away (10 mile round trip) from the nearest gas station and burning $1.00 of fuel to pay 5 cents a gallon less and save $1.00 on fuel.
