I recommend talking to current employer about growth opps for you. Tell them you want to be there but want to have more exposure. If they can’t do that then roll

20% isn’t is insignificant but are we talking about a current base of 40k or 200k? Where you are on the base spectrum may influence this significantly
20% is a large amount either way and the new offer comes with a large bonus expectation as well so you are talking about a 33% increase or more in total comp plus better benefits.
No brainer. Take the money and figure it out. Like I said, if you are in a field with demand, you never have to give the money up, worst case you make a lateral move. (of course there are exceptions to that, but they're exceptions for a reason.)

What does long term look like? You will make 20% more now.. But what about 10 years from now? Which job will put you in a better position to be making more in the long run?
And I know it was always said that having too many jobs looks bad and I agree it does, but is it as big of a factor now? I know some people who have job hopped like crazy and keep getting good jobs.

Travel to me last few years before Covid has been the killer. Can’t put a number on how much I hated the travel.

What does travel mean in your position? That could mean 1-2 hour drives or 3-5 hour plane rides.
Posted on 1/2/22 at 4:24 pm to Areddishfish
It will be plane rides for travel. I am at 100K right now with no bonuses so the new job will put me at 120K with the possibility of a large yearly bonus.
I travel around 25% now so it would not be too much more than what I am doing now.

Oh if that’s the case go for it!

Not usually for government intervention here…but I wouldn’t be opposed to a regulatory imposed 4 week minimum leave for new parents.
Take that leave. You will never forget the time you spend with your little one.

20% increase
6% match
16% bonus
5% tax savings if you move to tax free state
Sounds like a 40-50% pay hike

Seems like a no brainer to me.
Everyone places different priorities in different spot, but given the pros/cons he listed, that would be a super easy decision for me.

How do you like Charlotte?

Might want to check to see if you have to be employed for a certain amount of time to qualify. When I started with my current my wife was pregnant and they offered 6 weeks paternity leave IF you have been employed for one year.

Another pro will be all the bonus points/benefits/write offs from your travel. Get the right rewards/points/miles card & that makes it an even sweeter deal.

The lack of info about your new job/company is a problem if you are driven by anything more than money.
New company growing or disbanding. Lots of hr legal stuff either way.
If growing, does your JD degree come from the same school as the Legal leadership.
If disbanding, your work at home avoids a lot of company relocation expense
If growing, does your personnel interest align with the corporate product line.
Have you read the new companies annual reports? How about the sector financial reporting
What makes you believe you will be competitive in new companies. Large companies titles are tough to compare to small. Where will you be in 5 years professionally.
Are you going to be an individual contributor or manage a team??

You got kids? Will travel count as actual work time?

That means you'll be "going into an office" bro.
FWIW, I'd take it just to get back on the road again. I spent 14 years at +-50% travel and I really miss that. I'm in a position where I'm in the office every day now.

I’m a greedy SOB so I always take the money. I’m at my fifth company since 2016
