The problem with this question is that Jimi Hendrix was so transformotive to modern music, music today likely would be totally different had he not come along when he did. A big butterfly effect IMO.

But just as a hypothetical, yes, if Jimi Hendrix didn't exist when he did, and modern music still turned out the same, yes, he'd absoluteley be famous in today's world. Very famous. There is no doubt about it.

It’s not just about playing. Not only was Hendrix an unGodly guitar player that was revolutionary, he was an outstanding song writer.

One thing I took away from visiting the HOF in Cleveland... Was after looking at the notepads that the artists used while composing songs ... Was just how good the penmanship was..Sager, Joel etc etc except for Jimi. Not that that has to do with the quality of the song

Bluegrass is such an underrated genre. Glad it is finally getting the respect it deserves.

Talented musicians are everywhere. The real trick is the writing and creativity.
There’s thousands of guys that can play like Jimi now. But it was a style he created.(or at least made popular) Lots of people shite on the Beatles. Why are they so special? Well in their day they were writing writing stuff that was unlike everything else.

Why? A reframe…

Does the industry pay attention to money?

Who gives them money and how?

Why do those who give the music industry money not pay attention to the great players of today?

He would be Joe Bonomassa or Billy Strings.

His skill was undeniable. But today he’s be like those two guys. An oddity. Billy Strings can sing but everybody is there to hear him play.

I don’t see a rock/blues player dominating todays charts. What are those “charts” ?

Top 40 radio is awful. I know I am old now but I don’t think it’s just my age.

first you would have to define "famous"

Famous as in a huge chunk of the population has at least heard of him or know what he does (like Gary Clark type)?
then yes i think he would.
or

Famous as in one of the biggest stars in the country or even world?
ehhhh, probably not.

because the industry today is just different.

they're not looking for "Are you Experienced" type albums, so they don't get promoted and people have to actually search for it.

they're looking for one song that's catchy to be downloaded a bazillion times by teeny boppers, then move on to the next one catchy song.

Joe Bonamasso sucks arse. He is the Nickelback of blues rock and yes I've seen him live. He lacks creativity and soul. He just sounds like a technically gifted guitar player playing the same blues riffs over and over without any color or flare.

They want the type of music that will cater to all demographics and not just some.

What they have been creating the last 25 years has zero appeal to this demographic. Every genre sucks and I've felt that way since I was in my mid 20s, so it's not a get off my lawn thing.

Jimi was an extremely talented creator as well as a performer. And I don’t just mean his guitar work.

He was extremely colorful to the point where he would have gotten noticed one way or another. The kind of stuff that would go viral on YouTube or other platforms if her got it uploaded.

Would Bob Dylan be famous today? Doubtful. Jimi? Definitely.

25 years? Really? Tons of great music and albums have been produced in every single genre. Last 25 years are arguably as better than the 60-70s when you had one hit wonders because everyone was shooting up heroin and dying.

Jimi also had Mitch Mitchell as a companion. IMO Mitch Mitchell was one of the best drummers of all time. How much did Mitchell contribute to Jimi's success and could he repeat that success today with an average rock and roll drummer?

Incredible performer. Saw him open for/play with Foo Fighters in Memphis, 2015.

Catch him as Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup in "Elvis".

Feel free to list the classic albums that have been released in the last 25 years. This should be good.

I'm saying yes. Jimi revolutionized electric guitar and to ask the question means that Jimi's influence and trailblazing path were eliminated, setting music back a good bit.
