The school board would receive more funding, school board receives funding from state called MFP. It’s based on student enrollment- one of the issues ppl have with junk charter schools- they take away public dollars from public schools. Sure there are some economies to scale from an operational perspective but would certainly have to build more schools, teachers + pensions, and way more politics.

Yes...ish? A lot of the "neighborhood" schools are being used as magnet schools, so that practice would have to change. My kid would go to Wildwood Elementary, Westdale Middle, and Tara High if we were to go the public no magnet route.
Kenilworth middle, Glasgow middle, and Lee High are all a lot closer, but I assume are charter/magnet schools as opposed to "neighborhood" schools. quote:

I have to think that admin and faculty would love to see it in the long run. The facilities would be overwhelmed though.

I honestly wish br had an ice skating rink that is open year round. Can have kids parties there, just skate, team practices etc.

Well for starters, a huge percent of the kids from private schools would be so far ahead of the public schoolers that lots and i mean lots of butt hurt would happen by the public school parents

Facility wise, the high schools would be able to house a big population. Before the deseg ruling, all the public high schools were large in enrollment number size.
And those schools are still there, some rebuilt, some had upgrades. Majority are still stuck in the 70’s apperence wise.
My son would be zoned to go to McKinley since Lee went full magnet. If we lived 1/2 mile to the east, he would be in Tara’s zone.

That is extremely exaggerated. They’re not brainiacs. People act like private school kids are genius saints. Those kids are the ones that smoke weed and drink more than most public school kids.

Not sure about Kennilworth, but Glasgow Middle’s population is based primarily on attendance zone. They do have a Gifted and Great Scholars Program, too, but the majority of the school is kids in their attendance zone/neighborhood.
Honestly, if a lot of private school kids came in to the district, schools like Glasgow Middle and Westdale Middle are probably what you would see. They have a traditional population that does ok and speciality programs. More kids with skills and parental involvement would likely create more improvement.

That is often the argument about charter schools. If you close the charters, the non-charters couldn’t absorb the students. As much as school districts hate charters they have become dependent upon them.
There are very few private schools in Louisiana, lots of parochial schools(schools with religious exemptions from state standards) that are so far sub-par to private school education but survive in Lousiana because they are cheap.
In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king and in a poverty stricken place catholic schools provide some social distance from the really dysfunctional poor who can’t afford $200 week for a mostly unregulated school system.
Like buying anything you get what you pay for, and if your not paying $17k plus a year for first grade your not getting even the lowest of public school education.

As a public school teacher for many years and a child in a charter school I will say charter schools are a 100% drain on the public school system and even a detriment to them.
My opinion is that public education should be dropped altogether. It causes more harm than its worth and the govt money would be better used elsewhere.

I’m 100% anti-charter schools.
Stop wasting money to pay these companies to come here, open a school. Instead, put that money back into the neighborhood school.
The only 2 charter schools that are doing well (that I know of) is Lusher in NOLA and Madison Prep in BR.
But I hear Lusher’s admission system is really questionable.

BR has another problem brewing. Even if public schools get decent, you’ll have a 2-3 generation entrenchment of parents who have sent their kids to private school. For numerous reasons, they’ll want to continue that “tradition”
My parents and my friends parents went to BRHS, Tara, Lee, etc. We went to Episcopal, UHigh, Dunham, etc. There’s going to need to be a huge shift in mindset to get my grandkids to go to a EBR public school. ( I say grandkids because our minds are pretty much made up already).
