re: Would a six-pack every night be considered an alcoholic?

Programs just like AA and such? Meetings multiple locations on daily basis, come all you want, every day if you wish, hell hit 3 or 4 at different locations every day. Every bit of it’s free though. “Put money in the offering plate” if you want, no sweat if not. I don’t see how they make more gains with more people.
Now actual rehabs, different story of course.

Heavy and moderate!
You hit the main point.
Alcohol is drug so socially acceptable that ‘moderate’ may be construed as ok.
But to your point of addiction:
What is longest period of time you have gone with zero alcohol?
What is longest period of time you could go with zero alcohol?
…no matter the subjective level of consumption is what matters.

At 6 beers a day, he’s likely already developing liver issues. It doesn’t take very much to injure the liver and if he’s doing it consistently every day it won’t be long before he begins to have major health issues.
He’s likely a functional alcoholic. I’m willing to bet if he tried to stop at this point he would have withdrawals and that would be dependency. I’m also willing to bet he would come up with an excuse like “it helps me sleep” if confronted about it. Which also indicates dependency.

May this be your final oxymoronic post of the year!
Use of the word ‘democracy’ and labeling it ‘great’ when 50% of population has no voice in organization of their freedom. Yikes.
Please get back in your Time Machine, set for Medieval Europe. That seems more like your kind of ‘democracy’.

That 50% thinks liberty is an anchor.

When I was about 7 or 8 is when my dad starting putting away 6 beers a night pretty easily
It was a 12 pack by the time I was in high school - his liver was clear when they did his autopsy
But he did drink a lot of water & coffee also
Genetics, genetics, genetics.
Just as, if not more, important than location, location, location in real estate.

Why did they perform an autopsy?

I would say yes. Especially if he is drinking alone. If you can't sit at home by yourself without drinking, that is a problem.
On a different note..not sure how true it is but I was told by a Gulf Vet, that during Clinton's years to lower the military you were considered an alcoholic if you drank 1 beer on your birthday every year, even if you didn't have another drink all year long. It was considered a habit.

Yes. Binge drinking every night is doing damage. They need to stop.
Posted on 12/31/22 at 1:13 pm to 308
From my experience, it’s usually more than just a 6 pack for a serious alcoholic. It’s not hard to jump from 6 to 9 or 10. I don’t want to derail the thread but I’d gone about 60 days with no alcohol, a week ago to the day, I wanted a 6 pack and got it. Any alcoholic knows how this story ends. It’s back to start tomorrow hopefully. I would think if he can stop at 6 he should be able to stop at 2. Not sure how a normal brain works though, just know I can’t apparently.

Yeah, I gathered that he died when you said an autopsy was performed. My question is why. You don’t think autopsy is performed on every person that dies, right?I have had tons of family and friends die. None have ever had an autopsy. Less than 5% of deaths have an autopsy performed.
Even when a postmortem liver function test is performed, and that is even more rare, the reliability is questionable at best.

You can’t find a random 10 OT posters who think (insert fav adverb) alike, yet here you are speaking with conviction about what millions of people think.
Would be like:
RogertheShrubber thinks women should not vote.
More effective:
RogertheShrubber speaks for self.

Determining official alcoholism can be very subjective. But speaking as someone who has dealt with generations of alcoholism in the family, daily alcohol consumption at that rate is poison to a liver. And death by liver disease is a nightmare.
I will also say this, I would be extremely worried if I tried to stop drinking, and started having withdrawal symptoms. Pretty strong sign you have a problem.

6 of anything every day can't be good for anyone.
Especially alcohol.
Alcohol drinkers xcan challenge me on this , but it's true. Literally no benefit in any way, is drinking 6 beers a day.
1. Liver damage
2. Dependency
3. Mood swings exaggerated
4. Costs. Even economizing on 6 beers a day will run you hundreds a month.
