Would a deep depression actually be a good thing for American society in the long run?

I feel like we are way too fat and spoiled in the USA..

Getting dropped down a peg or two might help heal some cancers tbh

This was all the plan! Trust us! We know what we're doing!

Look around at your average American... You'll see that most are pathetic idiots with no grasp on reality.

A depression might wake a few of them up.

Those on foodstamps will survive. The middle class, barely hold on, will be on food stamps. Terrible idea.

I do believe Americans need to have democracy threatened in order to appreciate what we have and what our forefathers fought for.

But a deep depression? These are the circumstances which lead to some really unpleasant ideologies to take hold. You a fan of communism? Nazism? Authoritarianism?

Deep depressions are no fricking joke and have led to some truly awful things in human history.

No, we don’t need a deep depression.

Yes. I think society needs to experience hardship to give everyone perspective. In summary, I believe a struggle is needed to keep people in check.

So you want that fake depression, where stocks go down for a little while.. and then the federal government finds a new creative way to print us back to delusion.

See, that's the thing when talking about shite like this. Most people truly believe they are a "they" and not a "them".

Those for it obviously don’t have a future or retirement savings. If anyone does who supports - depression, please send your funds to me. I like money and a future.

Hard times create strong men.
Strong men create good times.
Good times create weak men.
And, weak men create hard times.

Yes, for a self interest point of view, that is obvious, but looking at what's best for society, I personally think it would be an overall positive if people experienced true hardship.

This generation would not survive a depression. No devices to play on. They would be forced to depend on themselves instead of high tech doing all the work. The suicide rate would go through the roof. And crime would be at an all time high. It would get really ugly. Just think of what New Orleans was like the first couple months after Katrina. And add two or three years of it all over the country.

Is conscription too easy of a solution? Mandatory civil service, military or otherwise, is a far more palatable and effective solution than a deep depression when it comes to teaching people to take pride in the country and communities.

And there it is..

You'll probably get upvotes but you're basically saying we should just keep coddling ..

We should just keep pumping juice into the underlying problem

Am I the only one to notice that people who spent 4 years plastering gas pumps with “I Did That” stickers driven by an outrage with a President are now defending plummeting markets, huge tariffs, inflation and, apparently, soliciting support for the moral and patriotic value of us entering a “deep depression”.

Jfc. Think for yourself.
