Not if you're from Louisiana

Louisiana vs. National Averages

If you live in Louisiana, you are likely spending more than the national average. According to dining out data from ConsumerAffairs, Louisiana residents spend an average of $555 per month on dining out, putting the state at 4th highest in the country.

This can be broken down into:

National Average Spend: $329 per month ($3,945 annually) on "food away from home".

Delivery-Specific Costs: Apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats cost the average American $1,850 per year (about $37 per week), with nearly a third of that going straight to service fees, delivery fees, and tips.

If I ate one meal a day and it was a 6 inch sub. Even a salad is $20. I likely spend 500-700 a week eating out. 5 week day lunches. Friday and Saturday dinner. Sunday lunch. But I am usually paying for wife, mother, and MIL in 2 of those last 3. Almost never any place fancy. Mexican if everyone has 2 margs is 150.

I spend more than $60 on just my wife and I at one meal when eating out. Add in my kids and it's usually over $100 each time, which is why we barely eat out anymore. Way cheaper to cook at home.

Given the first statement, I highly doubt you have anywhere near an idea of what a salad costs.

Is my only option eating out? Can I use the $60 to go buy bread and ham? I can make $60 a week work, I couldn't make it work if my only option was to eat out.

And speaking of items used to make a sandwich, someone told me the other day they went to the grocery store and got a 1.5 lbs of lunch meat and it cost almost $13.00. That's steep.

my family is helping bring down the average.

i would be surprised if on the 3 of us, we spent $60/mo on eating out

wife and i bring left overs or a sandwich to work for lunches. occasionally we will stop and get my 8 year old something at Canes, CFA, or McD's.

LOL

We eat like ballers!

We also probably overspend on housing, and we drive clunkers.

It’s just a matter of personal priorities.

Subway sandwich of the day combo is under $9. Yea it's basic as hell, but I could make it work.
