I’ve been to 45 of the 50 biggest cities in the US
Baltimore was terrible. Dirty with an unsafe vibe. The Harbour area is just touristy crap.
Tulsa was also somewhere I’d like to never visit again.
Jacksonville, Memphis, and Fresno round out my bottom 5
While certainly somewhat sad and depressing, I actually like Detroit

Cincinnati, OH sucks balls and its honestly the first time I've hated everything about somewhere.
Clicked here to post Cincy. I wasn't there long so maybe I didn't get the "good experience" but for 3 days it sucked.

Orlando. I don't like theme parks so the city has zero to offer me.

Not that I’m aching to go back but I like Tulsa. Nice smaller city and downtown.
Agree with Denver above. Outskirts are great. City itself is soulless.

Maybe Birmingham? I really don't even know why though.

Decent museums and zoo for its size. Great American is a nice ballpark. It isn't a top tourist town by any means.

Detroit and Baltimore
Detroit has good museums and Greektown. I have hit the Woodward Dream Cruise a couple of times and it is very cool. I haven't been on Belle Island since F1 left but it seemed like a nice place to spend a day.
Bodymore has the Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium is one of the best in the US, USS Constellation etc. You can eat some Lake Trout to get your The Wire food fix. Plus it is easy to split a DC vacation with a day or two in MD.
Sometimes when someone says they hate a city I ask where they were and what they did and often the analogy is they went to "Baton Rouge" and were in Prairieville.
My personal two of the "big" cities are NYC and Miami. NYC almost completely due to traffic, if you want to get around above ground it is a PITA all day long, the other major cities tend to only be bad during rush hour save for (long) periods like the I-80 construction in Chicago and the big dig in Boston. Miami is a nighttime town and that isn't my scene anymore.
If you move to the largest 50 cities places like OKC and Norman are on the list. They just aren't tourist towns.
Jumping back to Cincinnati most of the cities in OH are pretty bland though Cleveland is a little better.

Does New Haven count as a somewhat major city?
If so I pick New Haven.

Detroit, Philly, Baltimore.
Atlantic City might be the worse.

New Haven does suck. I spent a few weeks working there in maybe 2005 or so. I'm guessing it hasn't changed a lot in 15-16 years.
