I was watching Midnight Express last night, and thought about the worst countries to be locked up in? Middle eastern countries? China or North Korea? El Salvador? On the other hand, I know the Scandinavian prisons are essentially resorts.

Any Central America country. Brazil wouldn’t be too fun, I bet. Russia would be less than ideal

I would guess North Korea.

Gonna skip the usual suspects and say something like Eritrea, Djibouti, or Papua New Guinea.

Thailand prisons are brutal according to a documentary I saw on it a while back.

I don’t know about internationally, but I’ve done the statewide tour in my younger years.
Iberville parish was pretty bad. I got in the most fights at St. John the Baptist. Catahoula parish had bad dorms and decent dorms. Never made it out of Central Booking in New Orleans. Food was best at EBRPP: Rapides Parish was terrible until you got sentenced and were able to move to the work camp: good food and you could smoke there but you had to work all day in the city streets.

Im not sure what would be worse. A place like N. Korea, or Russia's infamous Black Dolphin. Those places are sanctioned by the government to psychologically and/or physically break you.
However, places like Venezuela have zero state control and the prison is run by lawless gangs. You turn down the wrong hall and you are just dead or beaten within an inch of your life.
Tough call.
