World’s oldest shipwreck found off coast of Turkey

Archaeologists working off the coast of Turkey have found a shipwreck dating back around 4,700 years, making it the oldest in the world.

A number of ancient storage vessels known as amphorae were recovered during excavations at the wreck, which was found at a depth of around 100 feet near Kekova Island off the coast of southern Turkey, according to a statement from the country’s culture ministry, published Wednesday.

The amphorae date from 4,400-4,700 years ago and provide new information on maritime history, the daily lives of mariners and trade connections at the time.

I thought that was the ark? Or are they saying this is an antediluvian wreck?

But did the Ark wreck? The Ark might be the oldest moored vessel...

Can't think there were many docks on the top of Mt Ararat.

That's an ark. Completely different type of wreck.

Being only 100' down makes the mission far easier. Divers can dive for a lot longer too.

Did the black box have call records to fact check that age?

If not it's just made up age.

Well, it certainly didn't sink atop Ararat. That where the fable says it wound up when the waters drained and all the animals of the world left two by two to repopulate the world................Yeah right..............

Equally, I can't think of sinking on top of Mt. Ararat either.

You crash into rocks it is still a shipwreck.

Is grounding still wrecking? We need a maritime expert in here.

Consensus is Noah's Ark was 4,400 years ago so this could be old ship found 4,700 years later.
