Anyone deal with constantly thinking about whether or not you’ve done enough to keep the boss happy? I work for a self proclaimed micro manager who is constantly examining my work. I’m not wired in that kind of way at all but fortunately do excellent work that our clientele base has me in high demand over.
Still, despite the success, boss never encourages, never praises, never compliments… only sees the negative.
This is turning into therapy here lol. Just frustrating to do excellent work and feel that nagging feeling like I haven’t done enough to please.
Still, got 4 kids who depend on me. Gonna keep showing up.
In b4 dear Facebook, ding fries are done, etc.

Yea that’s kind of a sad post. OP, ever thought of channeling your competitive side and working to become your bosses boss? I bet you could do it.

I’m not important enough for my boss to care about me. I like it that way.

I talk to my boss once a quarter unless something comes up and never see her face to face.

This sounds fricking miserable.
Do you have potential options at other companies doing what you do? Able to change careers?

I think you might have taken my old job.
Leave! Life is too short.

Welcome to being an adult. We don't get stickers or get to go pick a prize from the bin.

You did your job, you get a pay check that is your pat on the back.
Stop worrying, do your thing and if they don't like it do somewhere else.

Start improving yourself. Find a reasonable way out to your next step. Set manageable goals, acquire experience, certifications, licenses, etc.
It doesn't necessarily have to apply to your current job either. Your boss isn't going to change his mind or become a different person. You can only rely on yourself, no one cares about you except for you.
Act accordingly. Put yourself in a position to go out with two fingers up, then leave like a boss.

I'd probably quit and find something else. That sounds miserable.

The only thing worse than workplace gossipers IMO is probably micromanagers. If the work is getting done, who gives a frick what each employee is doing every minute of the day?

I worry about people I respect appreciating my work product. I don't respect actual micromanagers, so I probably wouldn't give a shite.

Perhaps one of the clients would value more than your boss does.
