Work briefcase/computer bag recommendations.

Getting a new computer bag/briefcase. Tired of cheap officemax stuff. But also not dropping the coin for a nice leather bag. Liking the Filson bag below. Nice enough for work (business casual), but tough enough to lug around and toss in and out of truck without worrying about something pricey. I'm in sales and carry all essentials with me all the time. Work in 3 offices regularly.
Before I spend 300 bucks on a bag, was wondering if there were other options with the same quality at that price point or lower.

That green Filson bag is nice. I bought mine from Brooks Brothers with a 40% off coupon back around thanksgiving.

Check out Samsonite leather messenger bags on Amazon. Can be had for under $150, look plenty professional for higher level meetings, and are durable enough to lug in the truck or on flights.
I’ve had my current one for three years and it’s an absolute workhorse.

Tumi Alpha series. If something happened to mine today, I’d have a new one ordered by tomorrow.

I have the filson and the saddleback. Both get used less than my other bags, but both are very high quality. The Filson just annoys me (floppy, hard to find stuff), but it does look good and it's tough. I just don't think it's an ideal business bag. The Saddleback is great but it's heavy as shite and extremely overbuilt like almost everything else they make.
I'm glad I have them, but more travel-centric bags are probably more practical IMO (Briggs, Tumi, etc.).

I have an Allen Edmonds Double Flap Briefcase, Saddle color. Have had it for several years now, am extremely satisfied with it...

Love it.
Beautiful.
Indestructible.
Heavy as hell.

I have the tan Filson one and it's a great bag. Very high quality. I don't use it very much though.

One of the great things to happen in the last 5 years is the gradual acceptance of the backpack for professionals.
If we can get rid of the tie, all will be right.

I have one from a company called Scully & Scully. Believe it was within your $300 price range. It's full-grain leather and still looks nice after ~25 years. Some of the stitching around the lining frayed pretty quickly, but the integrity of the leather itself is pretty damn good.

I have the Carhartt Legacy Deluxe Work Pack (official baw backpack) and really like it.

I recommend a catalog case. Leaves a great impression.

Leather looks like you’re trying too hard... and it’s unnecessary heavy...
Been looking at the Errant Pack... looks like it’s suitable for work and traveling light.
LINK
Eta: and it’s not a thick dorky arse backpack. It’s slim.

Backpack >>>>> briefcase/computer bag.
I’d rather have my hands free personally. Even with a strap to go over the should it’s still more of a hassle than strapping a bag on your back. Plus, a backpack is more affordable in terms of bang for your buck.
I like Swiss, Jansport and North Face.
