I have that Filson bag in green. Ran into a client who had the same bag. I commented on it and he said he had had it for 25 years. Looked good as new - affirmed my choice.

I just dont like the look of a backpack. I feel like a child. I realize it's more acceptable now, but it's still not for me.

And I know there are better "luggage" type bags such as Briggs & Riley, but I just like the look of something like that Filson so much better. None of those brands seem to have anything that looks nearly as good to me.

The most durable messenger bag I ever owned was a cheapie one I bought from Gap.

If I ever need one of these, I'd quit my job.

I have the Filson in tin cloth. Probably 4 years old now. It gets thrown around and beat up, but has no blemish whatsoever... What happens is it gets broken in and then doesn’t wear anymore. Love it.

Eta: check eBay and Amazon. You’ll run across a deal sometimes, and they’ll also randomly put them on sale on Filson’s website for like $175, but that’s usually the less popular colors like Navy and Black.

Tumi is probably too pricey, but there is a company called Buffalo Jackson or something to that effect that has some really good stuff.

I bought Tumi, but would have seriously considered the other mentioned.

I did not read the entire thread.

I have a comvertible timbuk2. It can be carried as a backpack or as a messenger bag. I wasn't sure if I wanted a backpack but since I tried it thats all I'll ever use.

Came in to actually recommend that bag -- I have it in olive green.

Great bag as it's more rugged looking than a Tumi, but still classy enough for work. FWIW, I see a lot of men using them here in NYC.

I was thinking of getting the Navy. I like the green and tan more, but just think the darker color looks a little more professional.

It's just hard to find something that style, but also doesn't have unnecessary flaps and buckles. I'd even prefer if the Filson didn't have the top flap. The single snap button and small flap isn't horrible though.

I've had a tan Filson original briefcase for a few years now. It's held up extremely well through airports and all the back and forth between work. I expect it to last long enough to be handed down fwiw
