I got 990 after 48 guesses and it's looking like it will take me more tries than you.

I got 990 on my 12th guess and 994 on the 25th... and was still lost.

I got it in 46 tries. I had several words in the 800s early on but then couldn't get close. I didn't realize that a number in the 800s really isn't that close but it can get you pointed in the right direction.

Whew, got it in 77 tries, 2 tries after getting 999.
After a while I realized I kept going more intense on the idea instead of settling into the pocket of the words.

159 for me. But same problem you had. Once I got a word close, I would hammer out 10 different variations of the same word. Plural, the verb form, adjective, etc. then I would pick a synonym and rinse, repeat. I also think I probably submitted the same work multiple times by accident. Unlimited guesses causes me to submit a bunch with out thought (thought, thinks, think, thinking, etc)
