I could watch this all night. Also, Crape Myrtle wood smells delicious.

I have never smelled burning crape myrtle wood. Is it a hardwood or what?

The best part of campfires is moving logs that are only burning embers and them flaming back up.
That and fingering a hotty under a fuzzy blanket.

Technically it's a hard Bush.

All fun and games until that handful of .22 shells finally hits a certain °F that your one a-hole friend tossed in while roasting his s’more

Yup, a few old plants died during the freeze and I've been tossing a couple stalks in every time I start a fire. Hard to describe the smell but it's sweet, earthy and pleasant.

Can’t argue with this. Have an upvote.

Don’t burn the leaves. That creates toxic fumes.

I have about ten I planted two years ago... eventually they'll need trimming... for now I'm trying not to damage them with the mower.

Correct. Or at least don't burn them and stand down wind.

Probably so, but I’ve got a couple that you couldn’t reach your arms around the trunk, so I think of them as trees.

I do too.. that's why I said technically.
Plus hard bush was fun to type.

The thing I love about campfires, you stare into the the embers and watch the flames dance, fiery little nymphs.
And it’s the same flames that a thousand forefathers have stared into, and thought. Planned. Pondered. Plotted.
That Promethean gift, tying us all together. It’s ancient and honest and real. A ravenous monster, a warm friend. Fire is truth.

We had a new year's eve mardi gras party years ago and it was unseasonably warm. We intended to have some fire barrels and a few of the guys said we weren't doing it. One guy stood up and said "if you build it they will come".
He wasn't wrong.

Did you call Tony Robbins and run over the embers bare footed together?

When you have a bed of coals like that take a steak and cook directly on top of the coals. Sounds gross or stupid I know. Just try it

Fires and babbling brooks. So soothing. I think it goes back to cave man days. Water to drink and fire for warmth.
I have both. A running creek, and a stone fireplace.
Sometimes I drag my wife to the bedroom by her hair..... for old times sake.

I didnt know freezing would kill them. I have one I have sprayed with gly, 24d, 24db, gasoline, diesel and used motor oil. That bastard will come back every year.
