After spending a good 2 months trying to figure out her tastes and consulting her sister and Pinterest page, I guess I sort of did get her opinion.
It was important to me that she would like the ring. I wasn’t going to buy without figuring out what she liked. But I wanted it to be a true surprise.

We've been married over 35 years. The first rings we got came in a little Service Merchandise ziploc-not even a box. Last year we bought a new set while on vacation in South Dakota-they're sterling silver with Black Hills gold & I love them. Mine has a small CZ & it's exactly what I wanted.

Shouldn’t she have some say about it?
Yes, without question. She has to wear it, so you should wnt her to love it. I had my wife-to-be select the central diamond and three possible settings. I picked the setting, so there could be a little surprise, but I watched her closely when looking at options.

The surprise is completely gone if you let her go pick out a ring beforehand.

Conversation between BF and GF
Hey babe if one day I get on a knee and ask u to marry me what would you like
White or yellow gold
Diamond shape
Ring size
Single solitaire or a cluster of diamonds
Any special request
Go look at some and see which she likes more

Married life is full of surprises...mostly wonderful, so "popping the question" and giving your future spouse a ring they did not have a part on selecting do not need to be on that list.

Love mine. I picked out the setting and he picked out the diamond.

No not at all, and if you put a crackerjack ring on your old lady's finger and ask her to marry you and she doesn't say yes, than she ain't the one.

Or like someone else posted that it shouldn’t matter, what it looks like yet her next post was saying she wears a certain ring because she likes it
I also wear an emerald ring everyday that I don’t necessarily like, but it was a gift from my mom and that is more important to me than if I like it or not. The sentiment matters more to me.

Talk to her momma and friends. Take their ideas and also what you like, bring them to a jeweler, and see what the jeweler can do. You will know the ring you should buy when you see it.
Also, she will love it no matter what you get. With that said, it doesn’t hurt to ask her what type of rings she likes. My fiancée bluntly told me “no squares,” so I knew that was off limits. As long as you ask this question early enough, the surprise won’t be ruined. Then again, she’ll just be generally expecting it at some point, so the surprise was ruined anyways haha
Pro tip: buy the wedding band with the ring, that way you’re not having to pay the jeweler an additional $2500 a couple months before your wedding. Just get that over with.

My wife bought her own wedding ring for 90 bucks on amazon. I guess she likes it

Not at all. You lack creativity.

This is what I gave my wife 7 years ago, she's pissed that it's so popular now as it wasn't very popular back then.

I feel like this is a troll thread, but if he has this shite and he only spent $800 on his future wife's engagement ring it sounds like she's the one who dodged a bullet.
I overheard a "friend" telling someone that he shouldn't spend more than 2k on a ring, he drives a truck with a 1k a month note

I did way better picking out a ring than my wife ever would have. We lived in San Francisco at the time, so my jeweler options were pretty good. I went with a designer setting, Jeff Cooper, so the proportions are perfect for the diamond and her ring size.
I picked out something that I thought would be beautiful on her...if a man can’t even do that, why would you want to marry him?
