Woodworth is definitely an equal opportunity speed trap. I avoid it at all costs when in that area.

10 or 12 years ago, an EMT buddy of mine was driving an ambulance through Woodworth with lights and siren on, taking a critical patient from the Oakdale hospital to Alexandria. A Woodworth cop tried to pull them over. When they wouldn't stop, he FORCED them over, and threatened to arrest my buddy if he drove off before getting his speeding ticket.

He tried to defend it in court, but the judge basically told him pay up or go to jail.

That Mayor and the cops of Woodworth should be in prison.

Clearly the truck driver in question has never driven through Krotz Springs.

What would be funny if a few thousand would fight their tickets and keep them tied up in court and cost them money.

It's a Mayor's Court, and the Mayor designed the entire scheme of soaking travelers to fund city gubmint. So, you aren't tying them up in court, and the Mayor can just soak you with some more court costs if you show up to fight the power.

Several years ago in an attempt to put an end to local jurisdiction speed traps (tickets for 37mph in a 35mph) like Woodworth, Washington, Maurice, Henderson, etc...

The state legislature passed a law stating any ticket written by a local law enforcement agency LESS THAN 10 miles an hour above the speed limit, the fine $$$ goes to the State of La.

Any ticket written by a local law enforcement agency for 10 miles per hour ABOVE the posted speed limit, the local jurisdiction gets the $$$ fine.

This is why if your driving down I 10 thru Henderson and they are working traffic, you will not get stopped at 79, but you will at 80.

Didn't the article say the municipal association got that bill killed in committee?

I thought it was the law, too.

Clinton is another town that has a mayors court and it's a friggin joke. The police chief presides over "Mayor's court" and the mayor just sits there, signs off on whatever he says and never says a word.
The mayor and police chief seem like they are really tight with each other if you know what I mean.

which would mean, in fiscal year 2006, each officer wrote an average of 1,539 tickets.

My dear Lord.

Say they work 5 days a week, that's 260 days. Figure in maybe 5 or 6 holidays off. Figure in maybe 10 days vacation and 4 or 5 sick days. That's 240 work days.

That's an average of writing 6 tickets per day. Every day! Geez did they do ANYTHING else on shift other than write tickets?

Best Woodworth ticket paying story I ever heard: My in-laws were military at England AFB back in the 80s and 90s. They had a single buddy who got a $200 something ticket there, and he went on his lunch break-- at 11:30 am to pay his fine in person. He paid in pennies.

They have passed a law that prohibits this.

Because when people are stopped for "going down the wrong road", that's usually what it's about.

I thought that applied to municipalities that run traffic on interstates only like in the case of Washington, La. This is why the speed limit was raised to 75 on I-49. IDK The local towns were moving their city limits to enclose the interstates taking money away from the state of La.
