Anyone remember the U of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts from a couple years ago? Wasn’t she jogging when she was abducted as well?

Maybe. I’m not really up-to-date on the story. But unless he’s a necrophile, he probably kept her alive for at least few hours. If the news got the word out by noon that she was an heiress, maybe, just maybe, this a-hole heard the news just in time to delay the murder in the hopes of squeezing a ransom.

Rumor is they just put up crime scene tape up around a dumpster at a McDonald’s . No body but they apparently found clothes that match what she was wearing.

This is Memphis. On any given day, there’s probably at least 5 bodies in dumpsters with clothes that match this particular jogger’s clothes.
Edit: Also, while I’m genuinely worried this is the body, that tweet seems to be a hodgepodge of information that’s triggering my skeptical senses. On the one hand, it looks like a dumpster of a Family Dollar, on the other hand, the screenshot of the rumor that corroborates the claim that the clothes match says it was a McDonald’s dumpster.
Seems like these amateur-sleuths don’t have a cohesive story yet. Is it a McDonald’s dumpster? Do the clothes match or do they just *vaguely* match?

We’ve been so saturated with true crime documentaries and tv crime shows that people will do anything to get their 15 minutes of fame even if it means giving false information.

I’m not so supremely skeptical that I’m not worried this is the body. I’m worried we’ll find out soon.
But seeing as this is Memphis and there’s probably more than one ongoing criminal investigations and the fact that it’s not improbable that a pair of shorts and a pink tank top would just happen to be in a dumpster at a strip mall, I have to take these tweets by these randos on Twitter with a grain of salt.
Saw one tweet this morning that the Tupelo plane had crashed…only for the plane to stay in the air for another 90 minutes.

Probably a tad early for a high crime city like Memphis. But like others have said, in the South, if you want to jog in the summer, you’ve got to get an early start, and (allegedly) the UoM campus is relatively low crime in the area.
Again, you’re playing with fire out that early in Memphis, but if UoM is a university worthy of its public safety reputation, it’s the probably the safest place she could have gone.
