He definitely had to have something somewhere for entry, but his immune system was compromised by diabetes, so it may have been very minuscule. I talked to him at length about it and the doc’s who examined him couldn’t find anything. Scary part about Vibrio is that it can enter a small scratch on your finger and next thing you know your leg’s rotting off.

This was on the news in Houston this morning. She didn't get it from eating the oysters. She got it through an open wound while shucking them.

I say she got it from a crab stick or she had a cut and picked it up. My Dad got Vibrio when he lived in Grand Isle. It hit him in the afternoon,by midnight he had no control over bowels and stomach. Mom called the Doctor next door and he made them go straight to Galliano for hospitalization. Did not want to risk the extra hour to make it to Houma. IV antibiotics for five days.

I’m not sure you would get infected wounds from eating the bacteria laden oysters. She probably had broken skin on her legs and had them in contaminated water.

Speculation is that she caught the flesh eating bacteria while catching the oysters in infected waters and not by eating them.
