Okay. If it makes y'all feel better, we will just say with absolute scientific and medical certainty that there was NO way she got it from raw oysters.

I do not believe she got it from the oysters. More likely from crabbing than eating the oyster.

Bad flesh infections from Vibrio normally come from an infected cut on an immuno-compromised person. Eating oysters with Vibrio present can cause the worst case of shits imaginable. I’ve never heard of eating Vibrio-contaminated oysters, then developing the flesh infection later.

Do they know it's from the oysters? She could have walked into the water with an open wound and contracted vibrio that way.

I know a guy with bad diabetes who simply went out on the boat fishing one day, had seawater splash on his legs (no cuts or scrapes anywhere) and it was enough to cause a Vibrio infection that cost him a leg.

I call bullshite. It has to contact an open wound or broken skin. He had something somewhere.

My father knows a surgeon who went fishing and the hook got caught in his palm. Almost ate his entire hand.
