When I was a kid we went on family vacation to Yellowstone. We drove from Cody to Jackson hole. Out in the middle of nowhere there was a small group of trees and a tour bus parked on the side of the road. A bunch of tourist were taking pictures of the trees. My dad said WTF they don't have trees where these people are from. Just as he got that out his mouth a Bison jumped from the trees and started chasing the tourist. They were jumping the fence by the road like a bunch of Olympic hurdlers

I wanted a video of that so bad. But no luck.

Also, NBC lied (big surprise ). She didn't die.

I can’t imagine thinking that getting that close to a wild animal, much less one that weighs 1500 pounds, is a good idea. If it decides you’re a threat, that’s the ball game.

And bison are much faster than you think they would be.

And huge.

This is a little insensitive. She was on a boardwalk, she didn't seek out the beast. Just walking down the boardwalk that goes to the geyser, and she gets gored.

Darwin awards should be reserved for the type who hop off the boardwalk and run over to a wild animal, not when the wild animal gets your arse while you are on the boardwalk.

I read a story once about a tourist who wanted a photo of a nearby bison, but it was lying down. He wanted a photo of it standing up, so he went over and kicked it. The bison stood up, turned and gored him, threw him into a tree, and lied back down. Don't remember if he died or not.

I'm not sure if the amount I'm laughing at this story is wrong, but I can't help it

When I lived in Woodlake Estates in Kenner as a kid, there was a huge cow pasture next to the neighborhood.

My friends and I would often jump the barbed wire fence and frick around in the cow field.

The owner had mostly cows, but there were horses and one bison.

One day, me and my dumbass friends were being typical teenage dumbasses, and we started throwing rocks at the bison.

The bison eventually had enough of our shite, and charged at us. We immediately took off. I tried to jump between the rows of barbed wire, and sliced my leg wide open.

Multiple stitches later, and I learned a lesson that day.

Worked in Yellowstone for a summer and it was incredible how many people thought it was a fricking petting zoo and not wild animals out there.

People are stupid.

Bulllllshit….

So she gets cheated out of her rightful Darwin award because she was on the boardwalk when she was 10 feet from the bison?

Bison don’t give a shite about a damn boardwalk. You think those mf can read?

Right now we can chalk it up to her survival.

Wasn’t even just bison. People would get within 100 ft of a bear. We had a bison that would walk through our employee dorm area almost nightly. There were many times I would be sitting on the picnic tables drinking or leaving the employee pub and it would be walking by. They told us to just stop and slowly walk backward. Never once did I want to pet it or get close

By staying on the boardwalk, she held up the human end of the agreement with bison. Bison get the grass, people get the boardwalk, so clearly the bison was in the wrong.
