LSU is the absolute worst in situations such as these. They have no regard or care whatsoever for commuters. A big “frick you” to anyone not already on campus.

Around 2008, I spun out heading to a final on icy roads and could have been seriously injured. frick LSU EOC, chancellor, whoever.

What am I missing here? Do we really need to shut the city down for a 35% chance of precipitation for an hour, 90 minutes after schools close?

Every forecast I see says about a 30% chance of precipitation after 4. Why would they close school for that? You people are over reacting.

The parents are literally protesting and shite talking on the EBR's FB

i applaud their dedication and passion

But in all seriousness this sounds like a horrible idea and very irresponsible. I can see a lot of accidents that result from this. When you have all these kids in school then realize you need to send them off before it turns bad, it becomes a frickn nightmare.

IMO this ain't over, EBR will realize this is a VERY bad idea and make another announcement before school starts tomorrow

My question is it a foregone conclusion that this rain/wintry mix/whatever will automatically turn to a sheet of ice when it falls due to the temp? Or is everybody just assuming that will happen? At this point the % chance of ice seems to be the driving factor here, can't be due to snow accumulation

I figured the closures would be Wednesday, not Tuesday

There is literally a thread above this one with the latest GFS showing sleet starting before noon in BR turning quickly to snow and not stopping until around 9pm. That help?

See, I think there's much more room for outrage with LSU in situations like this. Many students commute from pretty far away, and an absence in college tends to have harsh consequences depending on the teacher.

EBR schools usually follow with state office closures and since the state isn't closing offices in EBR, the school's aren't going to close

Agreed. Rain falls, then it freezes...then close schools. Don’t keep everyone home all day, including through the time they’d have been on the road, in anticipation of freezing precipitation at 4/5pm.

I still remember one of the hurricanes back in like 03 where all of SELA was under evacuation and LSU still hadn’t cancelled classes. My dad called me and asked me if i was going to head to Lake Charles. The interstate was a parking lot due to evacuations south and I had an exam which was eventually cancelled.

Which is what parents are pissed off about. That's the worst thing to do. shite or get off the pot for crying out loud.

Not everybody works a job where they can come and go as they please, and their boss is cool with it.

I guess if you can just stay home tomorrow with no repercussions from your boss, you don't understand why parents kind of need to know at a reasonable time the night before.

It's one of the main weather models used by the NWS for their forecasts. There is a trend on computer models to come in wetter and sooner on the precip.

And yeah, your weather apps are going to trail a shift in computer models.
