idk, id wait until the very last second before claiming all that money just to make sure i have gone over everything and that i have everything in place

No one who’s financially responsible enough to take those kinds of measures is going to let it cost them millions in interest. They could have set up plenty of protections by now. The winner is either dead, lost the ticket, or bought it illegally and is trying to figure out how to circumvent that.

Or they could turn it in at the last possible moment. I just dont see the logic in waiting this long anymore. They dont even have to expose themselves and can claim the prize anonymously.

Maybe they are dealing with attorneys and deciding how to split between family, friends etc before coming forward

More likely though the guy lost it and doesn’t even know he had the winning ticket

If the goal was to fly under the radar, waiting this long when it is becoming a story again was a mistake. They could have claimed it on Christmas Eve or the Friday before Christmas to accomplish that.

And the getting your ducks in a row theory doesn't make sense, either. The main "prep work" comes when you've actually got the money.

You say that but when you have 1.5 billion, a few million in interest doesn’t really matter much.

if you just played random numbers, you'd probably never know.
but they release the convenience store that sells the winning ticket. So you could at least find out that it was sold at the store you bought a ticket from. That's enough for me to want to jump off a bridge

It's way more than a few million in interest.

W/o looking I believe the winning ticket was sold in South Carolina which allows winners to remain unanimous. So it’s not ab privacy.

Also, the announce the county/store it was sold in. So unless the ticket was destroyed/lost, the person would have known where it was sold to go check.

It would suck if the poor son of a bitch was doing exactly 6 months in the county jail for being a deadbeat dad or something and was released on April 25th and suddenly remembered he bought lottery tickets the day before his court appearance.

Winning the ticket that close to the end of the year brings up the possibility of waiting until January to set up the organizations and tax id numbers for the financial vehicles to deal with the ticket being turned in.

To you and me maybe, I would have cashed that shite out next day. The point is someone who would have the discipline to be setting up trusts and shite when they have 1.5 Billion waiting for them DOES care about every little million. Really, really rich people are some of the most frugal on the planet. All I’m saying is the more time that passes the less likely this “getting affairs in order” theory becomes and the “it was a drunk who lost it” theory moves up the board.

Ticket got lost or destroyed and someone has no clue they won. It doesn’t take this long to get your affords in order so you can claim it

Still when you consider a million seconds takes 12 days, as compared to a billion seconds taking almost 32 years, it still doesn’t matter that much relative to $1.5 billion.

the same as it is every time this thread gets started. the person is doing what they should do and being super diligent on getting a) their privacy put in place and b) getting their affairs in order. this will probably be claimed on april 21st

Yeah, that makes no sense.
