Will this pandemic kill the big box stores...

And see a revival of the small, local companies.
Stores with smaller crowds and smaller staff (that cares)?
Plus, companies such as Walmarks, that lived on the Chinese imports, that will see their loss of these imports.

A lot of big box stores are booming right now. Particularly with everyone being home and Amazon having delayed shipping times.

The big box stores have to catch up with Amazon even more now. Mom and Pops are ancient history.

Lowe's yesterday said record sales

What is cheaper and easier in your scenario? I’d pick that

I think we'll see even more people shopping on line once they see the advantages to it. Up to about three years ago the wife and I were adamantly against it being old school and all. However, the last year or so we have adopted it as our main way of shopping.

Depends on which big box stores you are talking about.
My son works retail for a sporting goods store chain and they have been absolutely killing it over the last 5-10 years. The recent issue slowed the opening of their newest store a week, but when it opens not only will it be the company’s largest store, it will be the worlds largest sporting goods store.

The big box stores are gonna survive, it’s the small businesses/little man that are getting crushed right now.

Hell its about the only thing open besides Walmart/Grocery stores. I'm going there today actually.

Only if we’re very lucky

Doubt Academy goes anywhere. And Best Buy had a decently crowded parking lot when I drove by it last weekend.
Tractor Supply in New Roads looked like it was Christmas Shopping season yesterday. they aren’t ever that crowded.
Mom & Pop May see a surge in sales initially, but saving money will Trump in the long run and bigger stores will prevail.

unfortunately I think the opposite will happen. Same reason why we've outsourced so much to China. We are addicted to low prices and convenience

Where? Best Buy hasn’t been open here in over 2 weeks at least.
The only retail stores are here that are open are Target/Walmart, grocery stores, pharmacies, booze stores, and hardware/home improvement stores.

Best Buy here is still open....you can buy online and do curbside pick up where they bring it to your car. You just can't go inside the store.

And yet Lowe's stock was down 1.25% on the day on Friday. Hopefully it will go up on Monday.

Damn man, how are you this naive?
A month long closure or reduction in sales guts the “mom and pop” stores

Remember when everyone said Best Buy was going to be out of business soon circa 2009 due to Amazon and online shopping?

Well considering every post about the Great Toilet Paper Shortage has been in reference to WalMart, Sams, and Costco.. whereas the local small stores are stocked just fine.. I'd say the big box stores aren't going anywhere.

Not if what I saw at Lowe's yesterday is any indication.

In fairness, last Saturday was a day before the shelter in place order went into effect here in La.
So maybe that’s why it was crowded.
