I’m coming to the OT for the real news because the government and media have been useless in forecasting anything re: COVID.

Does anyone know people who work for or with summer camps? Are they planning to open on time?

I need child care if I’m ever going to work full capacity and I assume others are in the same boat. You would think this would be a major topic of conversation, but the news has nothing on this and reporters don’t seem to be asking about this.

Phase 2

If your state is already in phase 1 you should be good to go. If you live in a communist state you are probably SOL.

The answer is pretty much “no”. I deal with camps during the summer contracting space and services on a college campus (this is big revenue during this period) and, while most are waiting and trying to be optimistic before canceling, they all know what I know: Most parents aren’t jumping at putting their kids in a room with 30-40 other kids for weeks. The camps will be permitted, but enrollment won’t justify them holding it.

Our boys were scheduled to begin a camp in EBR on June 1 but they have cancelled and are refunding our money. However, Crawfish Aquatics plans on having a summer session starting in June.

Last I checked kids aren’t widely affected by this disease

MBS Parish also cancelled their vacation bible school slated to begin toward the end of June.

While that’s true, they have parents and grandparents, etc who are. And many parents tend to be overprotective anyway.

We were enrolled at St Luke’s summer camp. Got an email yesterday that maybe they will be open in July but they can’t tell us for sure. They are offering refunds.

Seeing signs up down here for some camps. Not sure if they will be able to open in June or not.
It’s going to be a tough summer for those that need to try to get back to working normally and have little ones

Yep. This is something a lot of folks pushing to reopen don’t seem to have thought through fully. Many daycare facilities are choosing to remain closed because they “don’t feel safe”. And until they open, those parents who may otherwise be able to go back to work are in a bind.

This is a big issue because we can’t ask parents to keep kids home until August.

My daughters prek 3 opened on May 1 but the 9nyr old is itching for camp and I need to get back on the road for my job in a couple weeks.

I’ve had no problem finding sitters to come to my house with all the out of work waitresses

That may work for you. There are plenty of parents who won’t bring in people they don’t know, especially right now.

I saw Harris County just extend theirs to 5/20 and they have far less Rona than parts of LA. What are the odds JBE extends it out further?

And those people are welcome to not go back to work and stay home with their kids. Hopefully they can still pay their bills
