They really don't want to.

SS isn’t going anywhere. You aren't going to see any real action until in about 3 to 4 years because its what politicians do. Kick the can down the road.

If you think your SS tax contribution is high now wait until the Democrat Socialist take over congress.

Of course they don't.

No one loves entitlements more than Democrats; they excel at avoiding responsibility, so they just "blame the boomers".

It is a ridiculous argument and it only works if you completely ignore past and current facts.

I can absolutely promise a Democrat will never sniff at ending or minimizing any government spending program.

As a millennial, it’s best not to expect anything and be surprised with whatever crumbs are left.

Scruffy I’m younger than you are. You know as well as I do we can’t just cut the program. Modifications have to be made.

So why don’t you give some actual suggestions instead of ideas you know would never come to fruition. I know that’s a tall task to ask on the OT though

No, no, I’m right there with you.

I think the best option is to simply tax the younger generations even more.

Let’s do that.

Honestly, for the sake of this welfare program, we should double the tax rate while removing the cap.

Same attitude we had in the 80s.

Most of us figured the Ponzi scheme couldn't and wouldn't last.

But the "gimmes" blocked Bush pretty throughly, even though he was elected, by popular vote, to try and end it.

I wish you all better luck.

We all know the government stole our money I don’t disagree with you.

The cat is out of the bag. Genie is out of the bottle. The program is broken. We all know that. But the program will never be discontinued (even though I agree with you that it should be).

Even though it’s a fruitless effort and goes absolutely nowhere, for the sake of conversation I was trying to point to an answer that would plausibly work, instead of throwing out ideas that would be laughable.

And I am being serious when I say, “go ahead and do that”.

We should simply push the younger generations to fully reject our system entirely at this point.

Just let it ride.

Crush them under the heel of inflation and taxation.

I am all in to see where it ends up.

Let’s ride this wave.

Thanks Donald. Keeping the Military Industrial Complex funded is more important than the security of folks who have kept the country funded and safe for the last 60 yrs.

What a traitor he has become. Efing embarrassment, but typical politician.

This board becoming blame boomers is funny. In 60 or so years we have had maybe 10 presidents, maybe 5000 members of congress who could have all had a hand in keeping our debts down, balancing a budget, etc. Instead, they spend like drunken sailors over and above by trillions what is taken in.

In that same time there have probably been 2-300,000 million people like me and others who just went to work every day for 30-40 years had money taken out of our pockets to fund everything, including SS, and younger people today think we don't deserve to collect some of it back. Their solution is that everyone older than them should just die.

Most republicans are really democrats and most democrats are socialists, who just want to give away more and tax to make up for it. Also, have open borders, and pay for fake Somali daycare, etc.

20 years ago. Bush wanted to privatize SS and was skewered for the thought. We need to get rid of all govt pensions except for military who served in war zones, cut frivolous spending, let churches provide for those in need, etc., and have term limits on congress.

There will be a civil war in the future, because the spending is laughably outpacing taxes, and the powers that be want to tax more and not deal with correcting the issues.

Lots of facts in your post.

A lot of this board (and in this thread) hate Trump, but when is the last time any President pushed through a bill that actually reduced wrlfsre rolls? Or, reduced government employment?

Just easier to whine about the way things are than to actually put partisanship aside and do something...

Imma need you to explain to me exactly how SS is an “entitlement”.. a lot of numbnuts posters here keep using that word.. tell me exactly how SS is an entitlement when almost every single person here (including myself) has had deductions taken out of their paychecks to fund it, most for decades now.. and for the love of god- BE SPECIFIC .

While I agree with you in principle, and in fact, the SS is defined as an entitlement per the SS homepage:

Understanding Supplemental Security Income Social Security Entitlement -- 2026 Edition
Understanding SSI
SOCIAL SECURITY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Many people who are eligible for SSI may also be eligible for Social Security benefits. However, a separate application still needs to be completed for Social Security benefits. We often need to obtain additional information from the person before we can award Social Security benefits.

The following sections provide information on who may be eligible for Social Security benefits.

I do think it is disingenuous to lump in SS paymrnts with things like welfare, where the participants have likely paid in nothing, but leave it to the government to call it an "entitlement " to get your money back.

Plus, Democrats get to justify their socialist viewpoint.

So, there's that

You know it’s semantics. It’s like saying UI isn’t a tax because your employer pays it.

True or false: The average person receives between 120-200% more in Social Security benefits than they paid into it during their lifetime?

It’s an entitlement for boomers.

How about stop giving SS money to people that don’t pay in to it.

A novel thought I know….

True or false-

The government confiscated our “Social Security” tax dollars- in my case for 50 years- and the nominal return would be multiples of 120-200% if the government hadn’t been the entity controlling the money.

If the zoomers worked instead of living at home with mommy and daddy then they’d be paying into the system thus contributing. It’s their fault there won’t be anything left for them when they become eligible.
