The price of a 4 ton HVAC unit with condenser has more than doubled over the last 3-5 years
Not only that, but now A coils are all aluminum instead of a combination of aluminum and copper, and higher-pressure refrigerant causes the coils to fail faster. Had a new unit installed less than a year ago and already had to have a new coil put it.
Ask any A/C man and he will tell you the days of a system lasting 20+ years are gone. 10 years max because the higher-pressure refrigerant plays hell on the system.

Since this adminstration only has 3 years left and things like this are subject to change on a whim, we might see simple changes like start / stop being eliminated, but you won't likely see anything major. The development costs for meeting the upcoming 2027 targets are already sunk for most manufacturers which will be reflected in the price of new vehicles whether they contain the technology or not.
So, you might see some small changes in product offerings but not likely anything significant for the consumer.

You use an OBDII adapter hooked up to a laptop. $40 on Amazon. For a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, or Mazda, you use a program called FORScan. There is a 30? day free trial, but I bought the lifetime license and have done this to approx 10 vehicles. Not only that, you can turn off the god awfully annoying double honk that occurs if you get out of the car while it's running and shut the door (like when you're getting the mail.)

As long as executive branch agencies such as the EPA are the ones setting the standards, car companies and HVAC manufacturers aren't going to really change much.
Why go to the trouble of rolling back things when there's a possibility that the new administration that is sworn in on 1/20/29 puts it all back like it was under Biden, or goes even further?

Yall keep bitching about these features, and the manufacturers will keep installing them, but charge you $10/month to have it disabled knowing EVERYONE will pay it.

I’ve had it on a BMW and a Lincoln and had to manually turn it off every time I started the car in both of them
There is a program called BimmerCode that allows one to configure BMWs to turn on and off various features. One is turning off the auto stop start (arse). It will also configure seat belt chimes, interior light color, pop up notifications, etc.

I genuinely don't know. I thought it was "optional."
Definitely slight hit to value for those that aren't optional.
Most if not all new cars will have it on by default. I bought a little cable thing that tells the car to automatically turn it off upon start up. Made that purchase in the afternoon after picking up the car from the dealer that morning.

I thought they already said earlier this year vehicles won’t have start stop crap anymore. Yet I see it’s still on ‘26 models.

26 vehicles were designed long ago and on the assembly lines in early '25.
'27 engines are already designed for the formally looming CAFE standards on the horizon
As long as government 3 letter agencies maintain the authority to fine manufactures into oblivion and the president maintains the ability to restrict or unleash them, you wont see anybody releasing anything drastically less advanced or efficient or more polluting.
Cummins was fined $2.6B over what amounts to a difference in interpretation of the law. You wont see anybody taking any risks regardless of what the president says, until the 3 letter agencies are permanently neutered by congress.

applaud this effort and implore EPA/Trump to remove all the ridiculous refrigerant restrictions in HVAC
Sorry, our Senator Kennedy sold us down the river to help maintain DuPont Chemical’s exclusive patent on R1234.
Kennedy is a total POS who does nothing more than grandstands for a base.
Look up the AIM act—Kennedy introduced it with Tom Carper (from Delaware where DuPont is headquartered) just to ban R410 and R134 because DuPont’s patent had expired.
FYI DuPont manufactures R1234 in iberville parish, so that’s why they had Kennedy do their bidding.

I hope this means that by 2027 I’ll be able to buy a car that’s back to minimum v8 without a bunch of nonsense tacked onto it.

They have delete kits/instructions to eliminate them.
The first time my truck shut off at a red light, I had a momentary spike of panic that brought me back to the days when I drove a hoopty that would die all the time.
I immediately bought an Auto Stop Elimnator.
That auto stop bullshite is only second to the shutting down of half the cylinders in an engine as the most annoying fuel saving option that no one asked for and no one wants.
