The Oscars is the most pretentious award show on TV. Maybe the most pretentious thing on Earth. There's no way they'd go for some Jerry Springer shite in the middle of the show.
As far as ratings go, why would Chris Rock or Will Smith give two shits about their ratings?
"Hey make a rude joke about my wife and I'll make you look like a bitch. People will start talking about us and tune in to see the rest of the show" No way.

And Will Smith and Chris Rock would not collaborate to do this. While I wasn’t aware of it, the guy I was sitting next to in the bar was aware that those two have bad blood between one another and hate each other. This is the exact type of stupidity and narcissism you’d come to expect from the Smith family. Honestly they may be the biggest narcissists in all of Hollywood.

Because likely they monitor their viewership and has this as a plan B if they were in the tank by that time. Something that extreme is 100% guaranteed to go viral and the residual effects are exactly what you're seeing. Trending everywhere.
