At some point in every Cops career, the mustache has to be grown.

I rocked one for about 2 years a while back. I always felt like I had to play the bad cop/confrontational when we were conducting interrogations. In my mind, it was the difference we needed to get the perp to come off their lies and deception.

Watching so much 9/11 footage this past month surprised me how popular mustaches were in New York in 2001. Don’t remember anyone having them around here.

Mustaches lasted through 9/11 then went out of style in the early 2000s. I remember the day my Dad shaved his. What a mindfrick.

I loved my mustache as a flavor saver.

Especially the days when I could eat three women in a day.

Rub your mustache and sniff.

after three and it was like Neapolitan Ice Cream. Three flavors.

Every time I've grown a beard, I've shaved it off in stages. From full beard to goatee with mustache & long sideburns, to just the mustache & goatee, to just a just a fu man chu, to a plain mustache. If you ever do it, you'll be hooked on doing it.

I grew up being pretty conservative. If I grow facial hair, it's going to be my well-groomed, 1970s Eddie Rabbit beard. The goatee was a big stretch for me as was the fu man chu.

One Fat Tuesday I remember sporting the mustache, goatee and long sideburns in a bar. Some of my younger friends were getting tossed, so I interceded for them. That normally worked but not that night. After they were tossed, I realized I probably looked like a crazy man to the bar manager.

So what are the mustache rules for guys in the military?
Can you grow one after basic training?
Do you have to be a certain rank?

My nephew waited until he was a warrant officer in the Navy to grow one. He didn't keep it very long. Was wondering if him reaching that rank had something to do with him growing it. Haven't had a chance to ask him.

No, his first assignment after Ubon was the Pentagon, his new boss told him to lose it. It was a big morale builder for his men in Nam. Leaders like him were why we were kicking arse over there until the politicos pulled the plug.

Of the seventeen planes Robin Olds shot down, ten were credited to the power of his stache alone.

I have the summer stache from Memorial Day to Labor Day every year. Some like it, some don’t. I don't enjoy shaving every day though. Normally I just trim the beard.

He actually “snuck” back over to Vietnam and flew quite a few “bootleg” sorties. I’ve flown with several guys that flew for him and they all chuckle when someone brings up that he didn’t get his Vietnam “Ace.” No one comes right out and says it but he did fly sorties credited to other pilots.
