I have an goatee with a heavy stache. I use to keep it trimmed but I chipped one of my front tooth/teeth(?). MY GF (no pics) likes the looks of the tickler mustache..

That’s because firefighters have them. It wasn’t a NYC thing. You’re just seeing a lot of firefighters

That makes sense.

Facial hair on pilots is, I think, something of an outgrowth of the notion that pilots in a war probably don't get a lot of time to do things like grooming themselves or even sleeping... goes back to the Battle of Britain at least.

So what are the mustache rules for guys in the military?
Can you grow one after basic training?
Do you have to be a certain rank?

Yes, you can have a mustache in the U.S. military. Rules vary by year and service. None of them are sensitive to rank, that I know of.

You cannot have a big, Freddie Mercury / Kaiser Wilhelm job in the U.S. military, though, and Gen. Olds came pretty close to that.

he had a pretty awesome 'stache, rules do vary but "officially" for pilots it's not supposed to extend beyond the corners of the mouth because the oxygen mask may not seat properly
