Getting run over by a texting driver outweighs the higher gas prices

Two reasons I'd never have one:

1) I don't trust myself not to go too fast or do stupid shite.
2) I don't trust other drivers not to kill me.

#2 is also why I don't cycle anymore. The proliferation of smartphones and lack of traffic enforcement makes riding a bike a death sentence.

I'll start riding again the day cellphones no longer exist. I started riding in 2010 and there's a quite noticeable difference in the amount of people that have their heads buried in their phones behind the wheel

i used to do traffic counts at major intersections for work. basically counting how many cars go straight or turn through an intersection for 4 hours. the number of people that would drive all the way through without looking up was nuts.

They have never gone out of style in most of the world, just here in this country, and although Europe has seen a drop off with these newer generations, the motorcycle culture is still far superior to that which is in the States.

I recently purchase a new bike, and to be honest, am looking at another one. There are some really exciting bikes making their way to America, and quite affordable, and it’s never been easier to ride with ride modes and the like as it is today.

THIS. I am not about to trust my life to other drivers by being on a mode of transportation that virtually guarantees me getting severely injured in a collision they easily walk away from.

Current hybrids can easily achieve 45mpg. Smaller “economy” hybrids can flirt with 60mpg. I know motorcycles can do better, but I can’t fathom gas getting expensive enough in the next decade to make the many drawbacks of motorcycles worth it, outside of those who are very low income.

As someone who owns four of them, I can say no, I don't see it happening. People are far too soft now to forgo their loaded couches on wheels, much less deal with the heat/cold/rain/bad drivers/horrible roads/etc that dailying a motorcycle entails. You might see a small bump, if they're marketed well to the right audience, but nothing massive.

Bingo.

I’ve rode street and raced off road for years. Fun times. My cousin over 50 still races motocross. Still does well. He still races all over.

Sold mine three years ago after several near misses with distracted/texting drivers and finally a deer. Took a loss on the bike when I sold it but got some peace of mind I guess.

May get a dirt bike or 4 wheeler at some point to be off road away from traffic.

I dont see why people ride them considering how easy it is for your next ride to be your last.

I see people on elecric bikes, scooters, even motorized skateboards now. Not kids, but grownups who I assume can't afford a car and/or had their licenses revoked. All hours of the day and night, usually wearing dark clothes and no lights. Riding lawnmowers were a thing last year but the cops must have cracked down on them because I don't see them on the roads any more.

I have always wanted to get one, but all of these other dumarse drivers have prevented that decision thus far. Maybe the next place I live will not be a major city with these wild highways.
