It’ll always start with a “4” if not a “5” in the most important rankings.
That should answer your question.
That should answer your question.

To some degree, it will; the advantages of geography are too considerable to not be at least a lot better than its current trends.
The question as to what that recovery looks like, and what is necessary to stop inhibiting it, is largely based on which faction of corrupt politicians comes out on top.

I’m 62, and La. has always been ranked near the bottom. What are we hoping to come back to? 49th place?!

Let the good times roll doesn’t mean sitting behind a desk at your corporate job.
So no.
So no.

There's a reason why more NOLA residents are moving there everyday

JBE has set us way back. All our neighbors with Repub governors are knocking it out of the park.

I think I'm going to buy some real estate in Louisiana so I can participate in these threads.
Then again, nah.

Louisiana is a poor welfare state. Not sure what you think can happen.
I was reared in the 50s in North Louisiana. Graduated in 1960. It was a poor uneducated population that depended on agriculture for survival. Cotton was the main crop, most folks raised a garden to furnish their food. I spent many hours in the backyard, under a shade tree, shelling purple hull peas and such.
I traveled across that region in the 90s. The little towns like Gilbert and Wisner had dwindled. I suspect without handouts from the government, it would be uninhabited.

Louisiana is just different from the other southern states in that it’s not an attractive place to live. Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas have beautiful landscapes and good government leading to thriving economies.
Louisiana is flat, hot, humid, and swampy. The larger cities are infested with crime and poverty. Economy relies on oil and gas which the federal govt is increasingly hostile towards. Govt at all levels is some of the most corrupt in the country.
It’s great to visit for the food and outdoor culture but not attractive to many non Louisiana natives to move there in any significant numbers to boost economic growth. And crime in cities like New Orleans has gotten so bad that it hampers the tourism money

The rate of attrition to the Gulf is faster than the rate of improvement. So I’m guessing Louisiana will be underwater before it is a viable state to live in.

It's probably too far gone at this point. Even Mississippi and Alabama have made more progress in the last 10 years than Louisiana.
These states have attractive areas that are booming too. North Ms and Ms gulf coast are nice. North Alabama is nice as is the coastal regions and eastern plains. Arkansas has NWA. Tennessee and Georgia have many attractive areas that are booming
I can’t think of anywhere in Louisiana like this that is booming in population and economic growth. Maybe the Northshore but that’s mostly NOLA transplants escaping the crime
If Im wrong correct me. Maybe Lake Charles had promise before the hurricanes. Lafayette? But the hurricane threat and insurance issue anywhere in South Louisiana is going to hamper significant growth there.
Shreveport, Monroe, BR, New Orleans are lost causes for obvious reasons

Absolutely, but it will require a complete change in politics and I am not sure how easy that will be.
It’ll take a major change in mindset among urban voters to start voting for politicians at the local level that are pro economy and anti crime. And develop a better education system so you have a more skilled workforce for companies to hire from. This cannot be accomplished unless the majority of residents want it, which requires an entire change of culture especially among the black community.

Mississippi Wrong
Mississippi has made huge strides especially in education. We are up to 41st overall in education rankings and the current elementary classes have ranked top 10 in the nation. The delta area drags the state down economically but other areas are doing well. Gulf coast, Jackson suburbs, Tupelo, olive branch, golden triangle are all growing industrially.
