But until we start talking about adjusting the variables that make having that many children more financially viable for 2-parent, working homes then your criticism is a moot point.

For the most part, I don’t like the idea of entitlement policies. But I think at least one parent, mom or dad doesn’t matter, should be at home raising their own children till preschool and I’d have no problem giving tax breaks for that; if we subsidize anything it should be responsible parenting choices like being married and raising your own damn kids.

I'm not worried about it, people who think they are saving the world by having a couple extra kids just have an illegitimate view of their own relevance and importance.

The numbers are staring you in the face. Ignoring them doesn't make them go away.

That's fine, but just know you're sealing the fate of whatever beliefs you and your spouse may hold dear. Your culture is weaker for that decision, because as we've pointed out many times in this thread, the rest of the world isn't slowing down.

Well, I hope you have a bunch to make up for us.

Tell me why raising two kids means you must live pay check to pay check?

, I know it seems so ridiculous on an individual level, but it really can be boiled down to something that simple.

Subsidizing childcare would be a good place to start. I'd have no issue with my tax dollars going to making it more affordable for one parent to stay home and take care of their non-school age kids OR to help them affordable good childcare outside of the home if both parents have to work (which is the majority of situations these days).

I feel like people who talk about two-parent/working homes popping out 3+ kids have no idea how much daycare alone costs.

I get interrogated at family events because I have the audacity not to share in their Christian beliefs, but it seems like I’m the only realistic one in pointing out the fact that we shouldn’t be celebrating such awful decision making.

What the hell is wrong with these people?!

They're not self-denying judgmental pricks like you? At least they have Christianity as some sort of crazy reason if they ever look down on people. What's your fricking excuse?

Really? If you're talking about people above poverty (not receiving ANY government assistance) raising kids, that is a reality for a lot of people with the rising costs of education, healthcare, childcare, etc. if they were to choose to have 2 or more kids.

Give me some numbers on the gross income of this two parent hypothetical home, because all of the data says that two parent working home is going to have more kids at $75k/yr income than they would at $150k/yr.

How many people do you think are living in the 150K/yr+ bracket?

And how weighted are your numbers because the lower your income, the more likely you're going to receive government assistance for having kids? Or that career opportunities that allow you to live in a higher income bracket don't have policies favorable to having multiple children/maintaining a multi-child household?

This is a direct result of feminism. It has preached women don’t need men to succeed and that any repression of female sexual urges is wrong.

One of the biggest winners of feminism is dead beat dads

It’s not having children out of wedlock that’s the issue. It’s the fathers that don’t stick around to be a responsible, present father.

I used to think this way, and my parents getting divorced didn’t bother me at the time because I hated hearing them arguing. My dad has always been there for us, but we no longer saw him every day after the divorce.

Now that I’m older I wish they could have found some way to work out their issues and stick together. When you break up a family you lose something that you can’t get back, no matter how involved both parents are in their kids lives.

People need to choose their mates better and not be ashamed to ask for professional help.

Again, these are things people way when they don't want to make any sacrafices in order to have children. That's perfectly fine, but it's a losing cause in the end.

I love my little cousin just as much as ever. If I didn’t I wouldn’t give a shite.

The reason I’m mad is because of the two lives wrecked out of carelessness, the reason why I’m mad is because I care.

Not many, and those that are have about 15% fewer children than couples making $75k.

Yeah, stick with the exceptions and not the general rules and see how life works out.

Considering 50% of marriages end in divorce, I would say the rule is pretty true that kids grow up in a home with miserable parents

Wouldn't you say that being married when you have a kid greatly increases the chances of having a father stick around?

Not really. If a man doesn’t want to be a father, it doesn’t matter if they’re married or not. At some point, that marriage will fall apart and they’ve wasted time in their life.

This is the issue here. Smart people comprehend the cost and responsibility of raising kids. Dumb people, like the OP’s relative, don’t. They will outnumber us with no natural predators to thin the herd
And this isnt because dumb people are having more kids, its smart people are having less

In the 40s and 50s, your doctors, business men, etc etc still had 4-5 kid families. That aint the case anymore

I think women entering the workforce, thus driving up both the cost of living and the lack of the traditional family started everything
