For anything at the DMV requiring a birth certificate, will a current passport do? I can't find my birth certificate and I'm tired of looking for it.

If not, have any of you done business at a clerk of courts office since covid? Wondering if they're even letting people walk in. I know you can get certified copies of birth certificates at most clerk of courts.

There's a list that tells what will work. Google has it, I think.

You better call those frickers. I waited for like 3 hours one time in Mississippi and was turned away because I had a credit card statement and not a bank statement as one of 4 forms of ID

I showed my arse in there that day and I’m not ashamed of it

EBR Clerk of Court @ Woman’s is open til noon
You pull under portico & they walk out & help you at your car

I’d try to call first because it’s a f’ing cluster & not everyone works everyday, I had to go 3 days in a row to get something taken care of

I just l finally found the list of approved crap on the dmv website. Passport is fine 18 and over, minors need a birth certificate. It's for my son. I found his passport but not birth certificate to show proof I own him. Guess I have to start calling clerks offices in the morning.

About a month ago (In Texas), the Passport system was not working and they wouldn’t allow verification by just looking at the Passport. This was for my daughter getting a permit.

I thought it seemed strange that it had to be verified online and that their system was down all day (apparently had been having network issues at federal level).

Now's your chance to give him the slip and let his real dad foot the bill for a while.

Credit card statements are good in Louisiana as a proof of address.

But for OP, Yes, a current passport is fine instead of a birth certificate as long as your name on the passport matches your Social security card. I.e. you haven’t changed your name.

For a Real ID License you need 2 forms of identification. I was told social security card, birth certificate and passport were 3 of them. So I think if you have a passport and social security card you'd be good.

Or you could make him show some initiative and do it himself and stop treating him like an infant.

Seriously, you used "I" 5 times, it should be what he needs to have and he needs to sort it out.

I just went through this. You may need something that has your social on it. Passport does not

I had to go back the second time

WTF are you taking about dickhead? It's for my minor son so that he can get an instructional permit to be able to take driver's ed. I misplaced his birth certificate, not him. I will have to go to the clerk's office, not him. He doesn't even have a driver's license to get there for fricks sake. Don't be such a dick!

I went through the same thing with my son a couple of years ago. I did finally talk them into accepting the passport, but the clerk said they really wanted something like a school ID, birth certificate, or library card. Something with the kids name on it.
I told her I would have thought a passport would trump all those, but that is not their policy.
Good luck.
