I’ve heard about this from a LA veterinarian. Said it was mostly horse abandoned by owners who couldn’t afford them.

Urban legend when I was stationed at Ft Polk was that when Uncle Sam decided to put a military base there they used eminent domain and told land owners to leave the live stock. This is where the feral horses and pigs came from.

These horses are indigenous and members of the First Horses community. They were here long before the Army Man came and stole their land. All they want to do is live in peace away from the Army Man and his loud noise making devices.

LIsten here, Ten Bears, these Horses are Terrorists. They must be neutralized.

The horses seem to date back to the horses brought to Colombia and Venezuela

Just curious, how smart are horses compared to dogs and other domesticated animals?

Except for Mardi Gras, I've never been around horses

This guy said they were abandoned horses, and if so, ok to shoot. people were outraged and claimed they were mustangs, not ok to shoot. That was why he was hired ~2000 to get them on birth control. Hundreds of dollars per horse vs less than a dollar (soildiers target practice).
He was pretty sure they came up with the BS story to stop the shooting. He didn’t mention A 10s, but it makes since.

My family once had a hunting lease near Pearson Ridge.

Everyone hated the horses. They were cool the first time you saw them, but they destroyed feeders and food plots.

Interesting. My father was born and raised not that far from Peason Ridge and he never mentioned wild horses.

Isn’t there a bunch of wild horses or at one time there was a bunch around the kisatchie forest?

I was actually working in Vernon Parish near Fort Polk last month in the woods and saw some of the wild horses on a pipeline.

I know, CSB

If you've ever had an experience with a large buck (outside of hunting) where he trusts you to come close and hang around for awhile in his environment, they're easily one of the most majestic animals and almost a spiritual experience to be around.

Wild horses are like that but times a million. I can't think of another wild animal I'd choose to be in another life over those two

Most of the Spaniards during the Age of Exploration were from Central and Northern Spain, so yes.

the horses over to the West and the ones in Woodworth are distinctly different. The ones in Woodworth are thick, short legged with a lot of paints. The ones in Ft Polk taller, leaner and less blocky.

I communicated w the folks that caretake the herds over to the west and they confirmed the ones here are quite a bit different. I found that odd that they were so different
