Aleve or a similar anti inflammatory would take the edge off, but it still hurt like a mofo. The big toe is MUCH worse than the ankle though.
1200 mg ibuprofen didn’t touch it

Colchsine doesn’t work for me and still gives me the flying shits. I tell the doc I want the steroid shot and within a few hours I can walk again.

I used to go a year or two without a flareup, but this past year was terrible. 7 months ago it hit me hard and I went to the urgent care for a steroid shot. It took 24 hours, but eventually knocked the pain out enough that I could walk. It was a week before my limp went away, but I kept the dull ache for a week after that. Then a massive flare up hit that made me actually punch myself in the face. My oldest son helped me to the truck and he drove me to the hospital to get answers. That pain made me have fond memories of bones that I've broken over the years.

Go to a real doctor, not an OT doctor.

I got it in the ankle for the first time last month. I found that to be way more painful than the toe. Had to do steroids. Most of the men on my moms side have it.

Agree with the person about steroid shot. It stops hurting in minutes. You will freaking start to hate people when they start talking to you about food advice. Like I haven’t heard this crap before. Yes I know. You know what I ate this week? The same dead gum thing I’ve ate the last freaking six months and it didn’t give me gout. The difference is dehydration. Drink the hell out of some water. I mean every day for the rest of your life. Like a bathtub amount. But you will forget and your levels will get out of wack and you will wake up with it in Disney word or some other inconvenient place.

Hope you don't like to drink alcohol.

I don’t. Actually, I do…a little too much, so I don’t at all.

well, I have a friend with gout and almost every time he would drink alcohol he would get a nice swollen foot or ankle from gout.

My brother has had gout for 10+ years and he asked me last night if I ever had a flare up before and I told him no.
So he was telling me how bad it was but we have totally different diets.
He eats a lot of red meat and drinks sodas and very little water.
I eat chicken and pork and only drink water other than clear liquor.
Gonna knock on wood because he said it was painful as hell.

If this is, in fact, gout, it’s like having an ear ache on the ball of your foot. It’s constant and miserable. If I still can’t walk in the morning I’m going to the doctor to at least get some legit pain meds to ride it out with.

It has nothing to do with red meat.

Go see a gout specialist

Get a jar of cherries and drink the juice, it will be gone tomorrow

It only gets worse go to the doc and get meds life will be better without those surprises when you least expect it.

The prednisone is what made your pain ease up, and yes shrimp is a big no go for anyone that has a propensity for gout. Google purines to learn more. They will test your blood and for uric acid, give you a couple of shots in the arse and probably Indomethecin and a steroid pack to clear it up. You have not truly lived until you get a flare up on your knee or elbow.. think having the bends in only one joint.

Don't listen to any dumbass that tells you to drink cherry juice. Whatever they had wasn't gout.
