People who don't live on the hurricane coasts don't realize a hurricane is just a giant tornado.

We live in North Louisiana, so we don’t have the same fear of hurricanes as most of y’all. We are about 25 miles from the Arkansas line so our topography looks more like Arkansas than most of the state. We just don’t have the good jobs or restaurants and entertainment that South Louisiana offers either, but I wouldn’t move down there for it.
We like where we are out in the sticks, but there are a lot better places with more to offer. I tell my kids look at other places to settle down. They may not like it and come back, but at least give it a shot.

the West with wildfires?
You can't do anything about air quality but you can mostly eliminate personal risk with careful site selection, landscaping and construction materials.

I've come to the realization that I am now hurting my immediate family more than helping them by remaining close to the extended family.
I am very sad about it and angry at the same time.
I'm sad because my kids deserve more than Louisiana can offer and they should not have to give up their cousins and grandparents to get what they deserve from their local government.
I'm angry because the local politicians caused this problem due to their ignorance and greed.
I'm also angry because the issues are fixable, but there is no willpower to do it.

We moved out of BR just over a year ago and rented out the house. The last two hurricane seasons and recent heavy rain storms/floods have made me question even owning a rental property down there. I think we’ll end up selling the house soon just to avoid the stress of hurricanes and flooding.
Yep. Did this last year. We rented it out when we moved and spent all of Fall 2020 freaking out from 900 miles away. Decided that the stress of being a landlord was simply not worth the income. Sold in February 2021 and after watching the aftermath from up here, I'm beyond thankful we pulled the trigger.

I'm in my twenties got a little bit of change saved up, and I'm ready to get out of here. Haven't decided where I want to go or what to do work-wise. I have had the same job for about 9 years so not a lot to put on a resume.

The people with the willpower are outnumbered by those taking advantage of the status quo. And that's not going to change anytime soon.

I'm sorry your life sucks and that in your eyes crossing an imaginary line makes it better.
I live a pretty damn good life for Louisiana’s standards, but my quality of life would be much better in some other states. Acting as though an imaginary boundary is the only difference between other states and Louisiana is laughable. And no, I’m not referring to other states in the south with our same shite topography, climate, and demographics.

I’m not even really concerned about hurricanes. Even ignoring them, our climate sucks. It’s hot as frick or raining, those are our two seasons. Not to mention it’s a fricking dump because trashy people don’t give a shite and litter or don’t keep up with their property.

We are moving from the Dallas area to Broussard and building a house.
I know it seems crazy and illogical but home is home damnit. I have been away since 1988 and am ready to retire and live with my peeps.
Hurricanes and plaintiff attorneys (Insurance costs) are my biggest obstacles to over come. Getting HO insurance for $1500 a year on a 500K home and Auto insurance for $800 per vehicle is going away for good.

When one of my sons graduated college, I took him to the keys for a dive trip for his graduation present. After a few days down there I told him he should consider moving down there and getting a banking job, if nothing else. He would always have the opportunity for career advancement but money isn’t everything.
There’s something to be said for living in a place where you can go scuba diving, fishing, boating, etc everyday when you get off work. In crystal clear water. Even managing a grocery store or any job with a livable income in the keys is worth considering. You can’t put a price on some of those things.

One of the main reasons why I want to leave is the same reason why we've stayed here. We're here because we have family here. I don't want my daughter growing up here, and living her whole life here just because it's where we are. It's a shitty cycle to live through (staying somewhere that sucks just because that's where family is). Someone has to break the cycle.

I'm fed up with it myself. I'm moving north as soon as my daughter graduates HS.

Louisiana is a failed welfare state. Leave while you can

When you move, just don't wear your LSU shirt everyday or fly your LSU flag everyday and for, Heaven's Sake, don't wear a Mardi Gras shirt with Mardi Gras beads on Fat Tuesday

This. The providers in Louisiana are few and far between. Most of this state is nothing but uneducated and lazy bums who leech off of the state and federal government for their entire lives. It only gets worse by the year.
