Right there with you man.

It’s been a discussion for a year now. I’m actually on the cusp of updating my resume and sending it out just to see what’s out there.

I’m even pretty unhappy here.

We will see where it goes.

I've been ready for a while. My entire family is leaving in a year. We moved here from Texas, husband lost his well-paying job a year later due to office closure. The few jobs he could find pay far less and it's been a struggle ever since-- when you add in floods, storms, and ever-increasing insurance costs, it's just time. We've stayed this long because of the husband's parents. (93) His sisters surely don't feel that obligation. I am not sure why it's all on us.

For those of you in Texas- Conroe, The Woodlands area is insurance steadily going up? I am looking to move into that area or Montgomery.

Having lived for a substantial amount of time in both… Plenty of hurricanes but much better infrastructure, building codes, and community planning. Unless you’re right on the water there often isn’t the need to evacuate nearly as often.

I hear this statement all the time.

I have told so many people how shitty I think it is for anyone to be pissed at their kid for improving his or her quality of life. God only knows how many miserable people stay in LA to avoid pissing off their parents whose selfishness likely ruins great opportunities for their child.

lol what? There isn't better offshore fishing in the world than in Louisiana.

I can always come back to Louisiana to fish.
coming back for a weekend isnt the same as fishing a season. While i agree there is a lot in Louisiana that makes it a tough place to live, but to say there is NOTHIG here is disingenuous.

I have drank plenty of shitty beer in shitty camps, but I have no desire to do that every weekend for the rest of my life.

The Louisiana mentality would rather have the kids in the worst state squandering their opportunities elsewhere because they want to be close to family and their cousins growing up

Southern Missouri / Northern Arkansas would be a great place to relocate to.

Affordable, friendly, southern and still close enough to Louisanna to visit.

They'll get over it.

My parents weren't too thrilled about me moving away while my kid was still young, but they still come visit and we go back. Plus in the end they completely understand why we left.

I think Dallas/FTW and surrounding areas has a ton of opportunities for me and my wife as well.

Been looking there mostly.

This. My husband's Mom works the old Catholic guilt thing. It's why we moved back.

My son's both work for the state. I told them to get that experience and get the hell outta here.

Mine too. He tells me weekly how much he regrets staying here and raising me in this state.

Funny. I’m fighting the same thing right now. And she’s catholic too.

I knew she would be upset when I told her we need to take a break but that's pushing it a little much.

Hit the nail on the head right here.

I grew up doing this with a huge group of baws, many of their dads and uncles doing the same thing as we were. Looked around and said no chance I can do this for the rest of my life.

Caught a break to head to Texas and don't think I could ever go back.

Central Texas provides me a 4-6 hour drive to anything I give a shite about in Louisiana, and I'll continue to do it 2-4 times a year probably for the rest of my life.

Life at 800' above sea level ain't that bad.
