I just said it was a bad move. I mean...it's not like in that argument it was all me throwing grenades, he threw quite a few as well. I still should have been the better person and not gone there though.

My significant other makes a little less than I do annually, but with her bonuses she can outgross me by damn near $25K. And I make a nice little humble salary, not OT salary, but enough to keep a fried bologna sandwich on the table.

I get it. And I wouldn't have a problem making less if it improved my quality of life.

Fwiw, my wife makes more than me as well, and I love it. I hope she gets a raise every time I do.

I've never been married but I bet most couples have had this come up in a fight. It doesn't make it less shitty but it's human nature. I'm sure men play that card plenty.

No, she's been catching me for years and it's always been something we've joked with each other about.

My wife always jokes that she'll make more than me when she finishes school, but I joke back and remind her who pays her tuition and also that I hope that she comes out of school making more than me. Her education is an investment and if she comes out of school making more than me, then it will prove to be a lucrative one.

I've never even thought about dropping the "I make more than you line" on my wife and I make double what she makes

I can't imagine why there would be an inclination to do this in any argument, even if the argument is about money.

it's because most women can't have a reasonable discussion over any level of disagreement, as soon as they feel their nose has been tweaked, they immediately go for the nukes

Neither have I, and I am far from the perfect husband.

I don't think you understand what F-You money is. It's high millions into the billions.

Not a few hundred K or even a few million these days.

It's actually one thing that has never been thought of in any marital argument. I think it's because she knows I love her making money, and the fact that she wants to eventually be a stay at home mom. I tell her she better stop getting bumps, because we get used to that real quick.

Upper management always inform my wife if she want to continue the climb she'll need some form of business education. She doesn't want to take that time away from us though, I guess the time investment isn't worth it to her yet. Maybe one day?

Considering money is usually one of the biggest reasons a couple fights....I would imagine so.

oh neither am I

but some things you just don't touch in arguments, and going after very specific insecurities is one those

and I'm sure the wife making more than the husband is going to be somewhat of an insecurity at some point

Eh, if you're the breadwinner with a wife who doesn't make anything, I could see how it could be relevant in some arguments. For instance, if she complains that you aren't pulling your share (50%) of household duties. Paying bills is a household duty imo.

I'll put it another way...I know how hard she works and how hard I work and I'll just say, it's proportionately correct.

I'm the breadwinner in my family, and I do more household chores than my wife does. .......

Dammit, am I doing this wrong?
